Danny Bravener was recognized at the Aug. 19 Greenwood High School football game for the time and effort he gave over the last two decades to promote GHS athletics. He was surprised with a gift of a bench that was made from boards from the high school gym bleachers that were removed and replaced this year.

Bravener spent the last 21 years as the Booster Club President giving countless hours preparing for fundraisers and events such as Friday night football tailgates and the spring alumni tournament. These all greatly benefit GHS student athletes.

Anyone who has been to any Greenwood basketball games, home or away, boys or girls, in the last 20 years, would have seen Danny behind the scorer’s table with his Diet Cokes, keeping book and additional stats that the coaches find so valuable.

Danny got his start in 2000 with the girls basketball team. As the team made it to state that year, he became the good luck charm and they haven’t let him go since.

Danny not only has a reserved spot at the basketball games, but on the football field as well.

On Friday night, he was in his spot along the sidelines keeping stats for the game, like he has since the (former head coach) Bob Lenz era, doing it the old school way with paper and pencil. He will continue his job well after the game and be the last one to leave the building making sure the media gets the information from his favorite fax machine.

Bravener is retirning from his role as Booster Club president but will continue to keep stats at games.
