August 29, 2012 --The Loyal FFA Chapter was named a finalist for the Model of Innovation award at the National level. They were only one of two Wisconsin FFA chapters to make it to the finals and were to receive a plaque at the FFA National Convention in October.
-- Shania Gorton was crowned as the new Miss Loyal at the Loyal Corn Festival over the past weekend.
-- Orville and Sharon Garbisch were selected as the Granton Honored Grandparents and were to be honored during the Granton Fall Festival.
-- -- The 20th annual Spanky’s Run was held during the Loyal Corn Festival. Winners of the races were Kaylee Meyer of Loyal in the womens 5k; Steve Frericks of Marshfield in the men’s 5k; Larry Mboga of Eau Claire in the men’s 10k; and Karen Schoenrock of Eau Claire in the women’s 10 k.
September 3, 1997 -- During the 47th annual Granton Fall Festival two sets of grandparents were set to be honored for the year. Lawrence and Helen Schultz and Arnie and Delores Opelt were chosen as the honored grandparents for the year.
-- Classes started on Sept. 2 at the Loyal School District this year after the district’s $1.8 million construction project was not completed on time. The district had initially delayed the start of the school year to that date to accommodate the work, but debris at the worksite almost forced the district to delay school further. Work by teachers to clean up the classrooms over the Aug. 30-31 weekend allowed classes to be started on time.
-- Residents in the Loyal area were advised to throw away any letters from an unknown Nigerian government official offering land for sale. The letters were part of a scam that had hit the area and the Loyal Police and FBI were both looking into the matter.
August 31, 1977 -- The Granton Fall Festival was to be held over the weekend. Activities for the event included a kids rope pulling contest, the Central Wisconsin bubble gum blowing competition, dances and an antique guessing game put on by the FFA alumni.
-- The Loyal Hardware Store of Cooperative Services Clark County was to close sometime in the near future. The store was located in the former Dankemeyer Hardware Store between Wepfer’s Pharmacy and Harry’s Barber Shop on Main Street.
-- The Loyal Corn Festival was held over the past weekend. Some of the special attractions included helicopter rides over the city, Zor Shrine camels and truck and tractor pulling contests.
August 30, 1962 -- A special informational meeting was to be held on Sept. 6 between the Loyal and Greenwood School Districts to discuss a proposed merger of the two schools. The public was invited to attend the meeting to ask any questions they would have about the proposal.
-- The Gamble Store in Loyal was starting a new remodeling project that would add a 24x36 foot extension on the back of the store.
-- Chuck Connors, the actor starring in the lead role in “The Rifleman” TV show was to be at the Central Wisconsin State Fair from Aug. 31- Sept. 2.
