Improvements ready for start of school Improvements ready for start of school

Granton Students, Parents and Community Members, The week of Aug. 15 we will welcome new and returning teachers, staff members and students to the 2022-23 school year. Open House is Thursday, Aug. 18 from 6-8 p.m. Also, the Granton School Community Library will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the partnership in the school building. Make sure to stop in the library during the Open House on Aug.18 and eat some cake to celebrate.

In addition, I was told that the Granton Area School District has been in existence for 100 years! This is something we need more research to confirm and celebrate. Look for more information about this during the school year.

Last school year, lighting in classrooms and hallways were all upgraded. The entire school building received new LED lights, which research indicates results in improved learning. The new light fixtures are more efficient, saving the district money over time. This summer many changes took place and will be completed this fall.

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning), roofing, kitchen flooring/hood ventilation and a new bus, are all improvements made possibly by the more than $3.2 million that Granton Schools will receive in federal funding over a three-year period. We are still awaiting the parking lot project approved by the board, but we are hopeful that through the bidding process this school year we can make that happen next summer.

In addition to the physical improvements, the Granton School District is committed to hiring highly qualified staff for all areas as well as adding staff for learning recovery due to the effects of the pandemic. Through federal funding, the district is committing more than $400,000 to learning recovery through programs, staffing and curriculum.

As we celebrate the successes of the past school year and look forward to another year, we know that we will help students learn and prepare them for life. As our Granton Area School District Vision, reaffirmed by community stakeholders, the Strategic Plan Steering Committee and the Granton School Board states: Excellence, Innovation, Inspiration; Every day. Every way.
