Fifth-graders finish ‘cool’ year

We feel so blessed to have grown so close to each other in our fifthgrade family. It is so enjoyable to see the relationships flourish between students. We teachers are proud of how hard they have worked this year. Watching them grow and mature as the year progressed was truly rewarding. The students learned to reflect more upon their learning, persevere with learning targets, and display a growth mindset.
It has been our goal to instill a desire to be the best versions of themselves. Integrity has been our main theme. Just as our class shirts show-- 5th Grade Puts the Cool in School!
This spring has been filled with many fun opportunities. The kids enjoyed a great day in Madison touring the Capitol, learning about Wisconsin history at the State Historical Society Museum, and checking out the animals at the Henry Vilas Zoo. The kids had so much fun and learned so much about the outdoors at the Taylor County Youth Expo. The goal of that special event was to enrich their relationship with nature and try out outdoor activities. They fish stamped T-shirts, and learned about campfire cooking, fly fishing, archery, target shooting, snowmobiling and ATV safety, taxidermy, plus much more.
Thanks to all the parents who gave of their time to help us chaperone for these events. While it may have been wet and cold for both of our outdoor adventures, nothing could dampen the enthusiasm shown by all! Your support of our endeavors was so appreciated.
May brought us the Rocket Way Fun Day and the first concert for our new band students. It has been a busy time and we loved creating memories of our journey together!
We tackled our learning targets in our classes with great attitudes. Math class challenged us with measurement conversions and geometry. Reading class presented us with many strategies and skills to help us become engaged readers. We learned to support our opinions and write short stories in language class. The kids were challenged to create Rube Goldberg machines as a culminating at-home project for science class. WOW - they went above and beyond!!
We can’t forget about the time spent learning about history in Social Studies. It was enjoyable seeing the various group projects which enabled us to present important topics. Our learners have shown great dedication to their studies.
As we finish up our journey with this group of young Rockets, we want them to know that we, as teachers, have learned a lot from them this year. It has been a privilege to spend the year with them! We wish them all the best in middle school.
