A small group of athletes from Loyal, Spencer and Greenwood will be competing at the WIAA State Track and Field Meet to be held at the UW-La Crosse Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on June 3-4. The group earned the chance to go after placing in the top four at the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet that was held in Mondovi on May 26.

Three individuals and two relay teams from Loyal and one athlete each from Spencer and Greenwood qualified for the state meet, with a majority of those athletes taking first place at sectionals in their events. From Loyal, Alyssia Zvolena, Abrial Kubista and Sheila Tellock placed in the top four, with Zvolena winning the high jump with a 5’5” jump; Kubista taking first in the triple jump with a distance of 34’11” on her best jump, and Tellock placing second in the pole vault by reaching a height of 10’10”.

From among the Greyhounds’ relay teams at Mondovi, both the 4x100m and the 4x200m relay teams will be moving on. The 4x100m relay, completed in 51.64 to finish in second place overall, was run by Leah Scherer, Sheila Tellock, Alyssia Zvolena and Aubre Robida. Alyssia Zvolena, Sheila Tellock, Lisa Steffens and Leah Scherer completed the 4x200m relay, taking third place with a time of 1:50.30.

For Spencer, Leah Zastrow will be the only Rocket at La Crosse in June after taking first place at sectionals in the pole vault with a vault of 11’6”. From Greenwood, Lauren Ingold will be the sole representative after placing fourth overall in the shot put with a throw of 33’1.5”.

Besides these girls, there were many other athletes from the local schools that competed at sectionals. The results from these competitors are: -- Aubre Robida of Loyal, who took sixth place overall in the finals of the 100m dash (13.28) and sixth in the finals of the 200m dash (27.40).

-- Leah Scherer of Loyal, who placed eighth in the finals of the 200m dash with a time of 27.47.

-- Ashtin Palms of Greenwood, who took sixth place in the 300m hurdles (44.01) and 11th in the preliminary round of the 110m hurdles (17.74).

-- Haven Peroshek of Loyal, who placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 31’5.75”.

-- Lisa Steffens of Loyal, who took eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:06.41.

-- Avrey Horvath of Greenwood who placed eighth in the 3200m run with a time of 10:31.51.

-- Noah Schultz of Spencer, who took ninth in the 400m dash with a time of 54.68.

-- The Loyal girls 4x400m relay team (Abrial Kubista, Noelle Teschner, Lisa Steffens, Sheila Tellock) which ran a 4:27.17 for ninth.

-- Kyle Nieman of Spencer, who placed 10th in both the pole vault (10’) and in the preliminary round of the 110m hurdles (17.62).

-- Faustina Thomas of Granton, who took 13th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:08.86.

-- Molly Zvolena of Loyal, who placed 13th in the triple jump with a jump of 31’1.75”.

-- Connor Genteman of Loyal, who was 13th in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.91.

-- The Loyal girls 4x800m relay team (Autumn Zvolena, Alexis Meyer, Hannah Strey, Maci Bogdonovich) which ran a 12:00.74 for 13th.

-- Kia Abel of Greenwood, who placed 14th in the preliminary round of the 100m hurdles (19.13).

-- The Spencer boys 4x200m relay team (Landon Behselich, Alexander Baumgarten, Kaizer Eikleberry, Malachai Anderson) which placed 14th with a time of 1:41.94.

-- The Spencer boys 4x100m relay team (Alexander Baumgarten, Landon Behselich, Noah Schultz, Niklas Pohl) which ran a 48.85 for 15th.

-- The Spencer boys 4x400m relay team (Levi Anderson, Malachai Anderson, Kaizer Eikleberry, Noah Schultz) which ran a 3:53.36 for 15th.

-- The Greenwood boys 4x800m relay team (Avrey Horvath, Cody Eckes, Hunter Ellis, Christian Thomas) which ran a 9:53.66 to take 15th.

-- Emily Wehrman of Spencer, who ran a 6:18.79 in the 1600m run to place 16th.

-- The Greenwood girls 4x400m relay team (Kia Abel, Bria Thomas, Candela Soto, Sarah Reiff) which placed 16th with a time of 4:53.23.

As teams at sectionals, the Loyal girls finished in fifth place overall with 52 points. The Spencer girls took 19th with 10 points, the Greenwood girls placed 27th with five points, and the Greenwood boys took 30th with four points.
