Clark County Home and Community Education hosted an evening event on April 21 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood.

Bailey Harder was the speaker. She spoke on “Speech Therapy - It’s More Than Communication.” She is a speech language pathologist and is currently working at Mayo Health System in Eau Claire. Her patients have ranged from age 2 to 107 years of year. Her primary role is serving those in the outpatient setting, while also working on the hospital floors and going into patients’ homes if needed.

Bailey gave a very informative presentation on the role of speech pathologists, who are part of the Rehab Team, which includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other staff as needed to diagnose and assist patients to recover from illnesses and assist them to return as much as possible to independence in their daily routines. Bailey received her bachelors and master’s degrees from UW-Eau Claire. She was also very helpful in answering questions that were presented to her.

After the presentation, those in attendance were treated to a wonderful performance by the Greenwood High School Jazz Choir.

HCE members also brought items, which were donated to Interfaith Caregivers. HCE members displayed their Cultural Arts Entries. Judges were Dawn Voss and Karen Stelzer. Twelve entries are eligible to go to the State Convention in La Crosse in September.

The winning entries are: Cindy Craig -- Photograpy -Landscape and Waterscape; Joanne Trunkel -- Sewing -- useful item and needle felting; Diana Schuette -- Hand stitching/embroidery; Lois Becker -- Craft: Diamond Dot; Debra Ortner -- Crocheting: Afghan, Bed Quilt-Hand Quilted; Table Topper-Machine Quilted; Mary Nauertz -- Sewing: Pillow and Origami bag, Lap Quilt-Handtied.

The People’s Choice Award winner was Deb Ortner for Crocheting – Afghan.

St. Anthony First Communion

St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal held its First Communion on April 24 at the 10:30 a.m. mass. Children participating were (front from left) Omar Vazquez Lopez, Brayan Sarza Nieto, Lennox Morrow, Harlow Nehrlich, Aldo Tomas, Hunter Loos, (back) Luis Gerardo Garduno Tabira, Dana Paola Garduno Tabira, Margarita Ruiz, Drew Kollmansberger, and Ryker Aumann. Father Leo Johnson is also shown.
