Loyal doing what it can to stay open five days per week

It is hard to imagine that we are approaching the half-way point of the school year. We have been blessed with the good fortune of being able to be open for our children every day this first semester.
We have been meeting with representatives from Miron and the engineering company HSR to develop a possible plan for facility upgrades. We are utilizing information from staff members to create a facility proposal, and will continue to gather feedback from our staff, community members and students before a final proposal is made.
We are also working with Jordan Buss from Spencer on a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant proposal to get funding for a multipurpose tornado/storm shelter for the school district.
Administration has been kept very busy with contact tracing due to some COVID cases in the district, but have found the majority of the positive cases have come from contact outside the building. If a student or member of the household is being tested, or are having symptoms, we ask that you keep your children home until the test comes back or the symptoms subside. This will limit the number of students that would have to be quarantined due to being a close contact to your child if a test comes back positive. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact either school office. At the December meeting, the Board of Education approved additional STAAR days to our calendar for the remainder of the year. STAAR stands for Students That Are At risk. These days are set aside for virtual students who need personal attention from a teacher for their course work or any face-to-face student who has fallen behind for any reason. Our teachers will use this time to work on their grading, curriculum and planning. For more information, check our website or Facebook page.
On behalf of the Loyal School Board and administration, I want to thank our parents and staff for working so hard to keep our doors open and for your patience and understanding as we meet the requirements set before us.
