Some 2020 Legacy Stone dates changed at The Highground

The Highground veterans memorial park near Neillsville has announced special stone ceremonies and a few scheduling changes for the coming year. The public is invited to attend these stone ceremonies, which are set to begin starting on May 30 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. There is also a need for volunteers. If you are available to help at any of the ceremonies, call Kay at 715-743-4224.

June 5 will be the first evening stone ceremony held at The Highground. This evening will honor the veterans’ organizations that have purchased a stone for the special area around the Wisconsin Map (United-in-Service).

The stone ceremony for the Military Working Dog Tribute has been rescheduled from June 6 to July 18 at 10 a.m. in conjunction with the stone ceremony for the Persian Gulf Tribute.

A Veterans’ Organization Open House as well as a meet-and-greet with Chris Pettis, the new executive director, is scheduled from 9 a.m.-noon on June 6. Everyone is also invited to an afternoon Legacy Stone Ceremony beginning at 1 p.m.

The Highground is hopeful there will be no other changes after the Wisconsin “Safer at Home” mandate expires, and that visitors and supporters will be healthy and able to attend. If you have a stone scheduled and need to change the date, call Kay at 715-743-4224 or send an email to donations@thehighground.us.

Stone ceremonies will not be cancelled or postponed because of weather (unless conditions affect the safety of participants, e.g., a tornado or lightning). You are encouraged to plan accordingly and dress for the weather—rain, shine or snow.

Other stone ceremonies include: -- Legacy Honor Stones: July 18 at 1 p.m.; Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.; and Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

-- Korean Honor Stones: Sept. 19 at 10 a.m.

Note: Stones are ordered six weeks prior to the date of your choice, so be sure to schedule it early enough to ensure your stone arrives in time for your ceremony.

Don’t wait too long to get the date you want. Call Kay at 715-743-4224, send an email to donations@thehighground. us, or visit the Honor Stone page for information and applications.
