Spencer FFA helps make Christmas merry

Spencer FFA members participate in many different types of community service activities. Two of our main community service activities are Project Merry Christmas and collecting donations at the Rotary Winter Wonderland in Marshfield.

Project Merry Christmas is one of our most popular events among community members. Project Merry Christmas is an all-day event where we go around Spencer singing Christmas carols to the elderly and giving them goodie bags. The goodie bags consist of fruit, a 5-pound bag of potatoes, a Christmas card made by Spencer elementary kids, and a Christmas ornament made by a local 4-H club.

Every year we get calls from some of the elderly asking when we are coming to their house. They always love it when we show up at their houses to carol and sometimes they even have delicious treats for the students. It provides members with the opportunity to get involved and do something good for their community. All the students that participate in Project Merry Christmas love getting involved and making an impact on the community.

Another community service activity that Spencer FFA members participate in is collecting money and food donations at the Rotary Winter Wonderland at the Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield. Our chapter volunteers their time to help at the Rotary Winter Wonderland every year and we always have a blast. We worked by collecting money and food donations at the two main entrances and the drive-through. We also had kids working inside the shelter sorting the food.

This year some of the students wore costumes that people walking through enjoyed so much some even stopped to take pictures with them. All the non-perishable items and cash donations went to benefit local food pantries. The night that we worked at the Rotary Winter Wonderland, we collected 3,098 items.
