Colby High School’s class of 2020 will receive their diplomas this Thursday, July 2, at a special 7 p.m. commencement ceremony on the school’s football field.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, the school’s 65 graduates will celebrate their graduation outdoors, in front of a limited audience of close family members and friends. Although each graduate will be limited to four in-person guests, others can watch the ceremony as it is livestreamed on the district’s website.

The district will also maintain an archived video of the ceremony, which will feature the traditional speeches by the class president, valedictorian and salutatorian.

Plans for the ceremony have been reviewed and approved by the Clark County Health Department, according to the district. Mary Streveler is Colby High School’s 2020 valedictorian. Mary is the daughter of Brian and Sara Streveler of Colby.

Following high school, she plans on attending Viterbo University in LaCrosse, pursuing a major in education and a minor in Spanish. Throughout high school, Mary was involved in the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club. She also participated in volleyball and basketball. Jack Krause is Colby High School’s 2020 salutatorian. Jack is the son of Dan and Katie Krause of Dorchester. Following high school, Jack plans on attending UW-Madison. He has yet to make a final decision regarding a major but has narrowed it down to either applied math, actuary science, or computer science.

Throughout high school, Jack was involved in the National Honor Society, forensics, band, Math League as well as Spanish and chess clubs. He participated in football, basketball and golf.
