Let the music help you find you way

Let the music help you find you way Let the music help you find you way

Sometimes when your world is spinning in a chaotic vortex, music saves you. Instrumental music, that’s what saves me. Listening to the sounds that I know are made from vibrations, so much so, that I can almost feel the thrumming on the string of a cello, or the bow’s small filaments of hair gliding across the strings of the violin or fiddle. I can imagine the heaviness and power behind each imprint of a piano key while it is depressed, causing ricochets of vibrations throughout.

This time of year can be hectic for just about everyone. Going back to school, getting into new routines across the board, making sure everything is where it needs to be. So, let’s get lost together in music. Leave every other thing aside, feelings, thoughts, life. Just focus on a really good instrumental song. I know this might not be your cup of tea but it might just help.

Focusing in on one thing in particular so that everything melts away. Let the music reverberate around in your body. Take a breath and breathe in the music. The cords letting vibration out in every direction, not caring about what is around it. Imagine yourself in that vibration. Feel being pulled by a universal law that the vibration just obeys. Changing and flowing just as it needs to without resistance.

Ahhh, resistance. That’s what brings the whole show crashing down around you. That’s when the dissonance of the sounds don’t meld, causing friction. Maybe we can learn something from music more than just sound.

Have we caused more dissonance in our life with the own resistance we have set ahead of ourselves? Why would we do that? Aren’t we following along to the same universal laws as every other thing? Does our own will get in the way?

I wish I could answer these questions for everyone, and maybe listening and getting lost into the music can help you come to your own conclusions. Remembering to feel the ebbs and flows of the music and take a moment to look at your life from an external view.

Think of that pivotal moment in a song when you just know there will be a change up ahead. See how it resonates with you, that change. Did you just let it flow? Did you resist the change in the song?

Letting things flow and allowing the notes to move over you are better than words can ever express. That is truly getting lost in the moment. Maybe that is what we should learn. When we lost all forms of words and our worlds get to be a chaotic vortex of crazy, music helps us to release the feelings and such that isn’t language.

“Music begins where the possibilities of language ends.”

-Jean Sibelius
