Teachers back at schools after summer vacation The rural schools and most of the village and city schools have started this past week. Some of the city systems have a workshop for the teachers while students have a few more days of vacation.
National Guards back after two weeks at camp The National Guards returned Sunday, from a two week’s encampment at Camp Ripley, Minn. Thirty-four of the men came back by Greyhound bus and arrived back in the area around 1 o’clock.

1571 at Colby schools Colby Public Schools opened the 1973-74 school year last week with an enrollment of 1,571 pupils, a decrease of five students from the previous school year.
Presbyterians honor departing minister Sunday The congregation of the Abbotsford Presbyterian Church held a farewell party Sunday following church services honoring Dr. and Mrs. Keun Won Park and three children who are moving to Seoul, Korea.
Atwood holds first softball tournament; hopes for team Atwood held its first annual softball tournament August 18 and 19 with eight teams participating. The end result of the action was the Mid-State team winning the championship, Fuzzy’s Bar taking second and Beaver Township taking third.

Abby’s 1999 budget looks promising A first review last week of the City of Abbotsford’s 1999 budget outlook provided lots of encouragement. The city will take in about $58,000 more than it will spend in the next year.
Colby approves borrowing for TIF work, streets Colby aldermen this week approved borrowing up to $150,000 for utility and storm sewer work in the city’s TIF district and another $150,000 to cover higher than estimated costs for the reconstruction of Third Street.
Falcon spikers start fast with win at Wis. Rapids The Abbotsford Falcon varsity volleyball team started the 1998 season with a big first place finish at the Cobleigh Invitational in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday. The Falcons finished with a 12-2 record to top the eight team field.
