Squirrels and shiny things

Planning. Do you ever find yourself with too many options and then you feel as if the world is literally coming in all around you, swallowing you whole? Or it pulls you off into another direction than where you started and oh, look something shiny.
Yeah, me neither. Overwhelmed, bah. Distracted. What is that? Did you picture a wry smile on my face as you read that?
Mostly fun aside, keeping a plan or a skeleton of a plan in my head is a really good idea otherwise I would get way too distracted by my whims or swallowed up whole and only end up doing some of the work that I need to get done, done. Sometimes letting yourself meander through the day is a lot less stressful than constantly being on a structured path you make for yourself. I understand the importance of structure. I just explained it in sentences prior. But, on those few days that I wake up without any plan or need for a plan, with the sky full of brightness, sun and butterflies flittering about, those are the days that are blissful. On those days, you just know it will be great.
On the other days you have rigidity. Rigidity - complete in utter movement in any direction. That just sounds like yuck if we are talking about the sense of life. I use to live my life this way and it became to be a hinderance instead of a helpful tool that I used to help my very distractful and imaginative brain. A lot of negative head space can stem from it if you’re not careful. Diligence and getting as much work done as possible was the key and if you were serious than you meant to work, all... the... time... Now I have learned, you need to have some flow. Some distraction and imagination. Not strictness. Pure rigidity is draining. If something fun comes up and it’s not in your structured schedule then what do you do?
A phrase that keeps rattling around in my head is, “If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans.” That is a good reminder to not be too rigid and maybe having more days of following my whims and imagination. It would be very good. Really truly thinking about it does scare me a little. Can you relate? But waking up and knowing I have things to do, being diligent at work and at my studies is important. Also, listening to my whims are important as well.
So, take a page from my book and learn the balancing act of both worlds. Let you inner child come out and be distracted and the imagination flow becuase it might bring you into someplace you never thought you could plan to go, but be structured enough to make good things happen in your life.
“Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
