Bring on the sunshine!

Bring on the sunshine! Bring on the sunshine!

The birds are chirping, the sun is shining and it is almost 80º outside. I don’t know if this is the effects of global warming, hitting record highs today, or whatever else it might be, but I am grateful (not for global warming). I am grateful for the warm weather, the warm breeze, the sun on my face bringing out my freckles; grateful for the happily floppy ears that my dog, Koda, gets when running towards me from the yard and the list goes on and on.

There is something in the air in Springtime. New beginnings, opportunities, fresh air, and possibly record high temperatures. According to Wunderground. com our high temperature will be around 81º. I say bring on summer. I have a couple of piles of wood to burn up and I am so very much looking forward to more bonfires.

In reality, even though the temperatures might be nice and refreshing for us, our rivers and streams that we are used to being at certain water levels are now increasing and we have flood warnings and critical fire warnings. It seems that those things would cancel each other out, but unfortunately they don’t. Statistically speaking there have been 320 wildfires already this year, according to WBAY’s website. So I guess my bonfires will have to be pushed back until the state is out of the State of Emergency that it is currently under.

I was curious to see when the last time the temperature was in the 80s and from what I could gather, it’s inconclusive; however, I was able to find back in 1998 it was 73º. Other data that contained the temperatures above that were either not measured, not able to be found by myself, lost or measuring instruments were not invented yet. I found on WBAY’s website that Monday, Wisconsin Rapids broke a record and sat at 82º, previously set in 1921 at 79º.

It makes me wonder if sunscreen companies made a little more money in those years. I should have put some on this past weekend as I was cleaning up my yard, from the (self-)reproducing sticks, brush and huge trunks of cut up branches. When I went to smile later in the day and the creases formed in my skin, I felt the slight burn from the sun. Luckily I like feeling the sun on my skin, and that slight burning feeling (which turns out to be infrared radiation). To me it’s a lot like the tingling sensation your muscles get from taking a pre-workout supplement to fuel your body for said workout. I know it is a bit weird to admit but I am unique and proud of that.

With all of that being said I hope you too can find moments of gratitude from the beautiful weather we are having. How ever you are, enjoy the beauty. Be true to you.
