Abby board will study list of maintenance projects

The Abbotsford School Board moved Monday toward substantial maintenance improvements in 1991-92 by authorizing a committee to hire a consultant to help organize the projects.

School districts now receive 55% state aid on maintenance and repair, so the board feels it might be time to get going on some physical improve ments that are needed. Jim Nikolay, Norm Kommer and Jim Melvin were named to the committee to discuss and organize potential projects.

The proposals should be ready to be bid in March. The district could borrow its 45% of the cost from the State Trust Fund. The first payment on that loan would not be due until the following year, so it could be included in the 1991-92 budget deliberations.

Possible projects include refinishing the gym floor, painting the high school gym ceiling, repairing the pool surge tank, installing science lab ventilators, draining, repairing and repainting the pool, replacing the high school clock system, repairing the exterior of the elementary building and chimney, resurfacing the high school parking lot and blacktopping the elementary parking lot, removing a garage on elementary school property, installing high school roof flashings, removing asbestos, bracing the outside of the west pool, replace the running track and putting a fence around it.
