Greenwood woman to run for Clark register of deeds
Mary A. Denk of Greenwood has announced her intent to seek election to the position of Clark County register of deeds. If elected in November, she would succeed Peggy Walter, who is retiring at the end of her current term.
Denk has acquired extensive knowledge of the statutory duties required of the register of deeds, as an employee of the office since January 2016. She is currently responsible for assisting the register of deeds in performing certain duties of the office including the filing and issuance of vital records; the indexing, verifying and accessing of real estate documents; general ledger balancing of daily accounts; and other clerical support duties within the department. She also assists the public, attorneys, surveyors, title company representatives and other customers who utilize the office.
Denk said she had been employed in the title insurance industry for seven years prior to being hired in her current position in the office of the register of deeds. Her title insurance career involved the handling of many forms of real estate documents, which is a valuable resource when working with documents submitted to the register of deeds office for recording.
Denk said she is running for the register of deeds position because she truly enjoys working in the office and serving the citizens of Clark County. She has had many opportunities over the past four years assisting Clark County citizens by processing vital records applications and fulfilling requests for copies of recorded real estate documents. Denk believes that her experience working in the office has given her the understanding of the duties and responsibilities needed to maintain the administration of the office as set by Walter.
Denk was born and raised in Clark County and resides in Greenwood with her husband, David, and two daughters, Aria and Maryn.
Clark County voters will elect a register of deeds on Nov. 3. Candidates for the office have until June to file proper paperwork to have their names placed on the ballot. A primary election may be held in September if enough candidates seek the position.
