Abbotsford Public Library has events for all ages this summer
The Abbotsford Public Library is excited to announce the launch of its Summer Reading Program for 2023. The program is set to run for the entire month of June and will feature a variety of activities, events, and reading challenges for youth, teens, and adults. The program is designed to encourage kids and teens to read for pleasure during their summer vacation and offers incentives and prizes for those who participate.
A highlight of this year’s Summer Reading Program are three Wednesday evening family friendly events. There will be the magic of Isaiah Foster on June 14, The Comedy of Chris the Critterrr Man and his Crazy Puppets on June 21, and local farmer, Cheryl Ploeckelman will be bringing a selection of small farm animals for a petting zoo on June 28. All three of these events start at 6 p.m.
Besides these Wednesday evenings, youth stories and activities will be taking place on Tuesdays in June at 3 p.m. The first Tuesday will feature the ever popular “Plant a Pizza Garden” workshop, where youth get to take home a tomato plant with herbs to try growing at home.
Another popular activity for youth is Read to Rover, which will take place every Wednesday in June and July at 3 p.m. Children can practice their reading skills by reading to a small friendly dog. This program is a fun and rewarding way for children to build their confidence and improve their reading skills.
Don’t forget the library’s in-house youth walk-in crafts. June’s craft is an ice cream magnet, which is sure to be a hit with kids and parents alike.
Teen events include kindness rock workshop on Thursday, June 8, a cooperative board game night with snacks on Thursday June 22, and a book/pizza tasting on Thursday, June 29. All three teen events take place at 5 p.m.
Adults can participate in a jigsaw puzzle competition on Friday, June 23 at 6 p.m. Register a team of two to four players to see if you have the skill to put a 300-piece puzzle together the fastest. There is also a Sassy Glassers fused glass workshop to be held on Monday, June 19 at 6 p.m. This class has limited availability and a $40 charge.
