Local libraries closed

As part of the state’s effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Wisconsin, the public libraries in Abbotsford, Colby and Dorchester will be suspending all operations and cancelling all programs and events until further notice.

The reopening date was originally set for April 6, along with the schools, but it is subject to change pending further information on determining the safe reopening of a public space.

Library board members and directors ask for your understanding and support.

“This was a very difficult decision and we know it will be a hardship for many in our community,” said Abbotsford library director Jenny Jochimsen. “The health of our patrons and employees need to be our priority at this time.”

Each of the libraries maintains its own Facebook page, where updates will be posted.

According to Jochimsen, the Abbotsford library’s website, abbotsfordpl.org, will provide a link to patrons’ library accounts, which has online resources and is always available.

To log into your account, go to the website and open the “log-in” link, which opens the V-cat library account login. Enter your library card number (on the back of your card) and your pin (the last four numbers of the phone number the library has on file).

Patrons will still be able to check out books and movies, though they may be limited to the Abbotsford Library’s own collection. Patrons should put books on hold via the “log-in” link on the website.

They will need to know their library card number and four-digit pin.

There will be pick-up times on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. and on Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. During the book pickup times, library staff will deliver the books to your vehicle.

Call the library at 715-223-3920 to let staff know you have arrived. Park in the library parking lot on the south side of the library with a sign largely stating your last name and your last four digits of your library card.

A plastic bag of items will be brought to your vehicle. Books and other library materials can be returned to the outside drops. Library staff will sanitize items that come through the outside drops before they reshelve them for future use.

Forward Bank has asked that no books or movies be dropped off at the Forward Bank (Colby location) for the Friends of the Colby Community Library Book/Movie Sale until further notice.
