Hello, Fall

The Kuse Farm Museum and Nature Preserve held their annual fall color walk on Saturday, September 27. The event was graced with perfect weather and the community turned out to welcome autumn during this favorite seasonal outing.
The sunlight poked cheerily through the trees as excited visitors of all ages waited their turn for a wagon ride around the property. Board members and volunteers gave guided tours both during wagon rides and while walking the trails, allowing everyone the opportunity to learn about the thriving natural world right in the heart of Medford.
As well as unlimited adventures outside, inside the stone house and museum buildings were more historical treasures to be found. Guests wandered past rows of books detailing botany, insects, and local wildlife, and took in shelves loaded with items the Kuse family used when the property was their homestead. There were vintage cameras, shoe horns, tools and spices, and an old oven still loaded with wood, ready to be fired up.
And there were special desserts on the kitchen table inside the old stone house in memory of Dr. Hildegard Kuse, who passed away this January. Hildegard Kuse, like her family before her, was dedicated to preserving the land and her family’s legacy. Board members continue the family’s work by maintaining events like the fall color walk.
Another such event is the kite flying clinic, held jointly by Huey’s Hideaway and the Kuse Farm Museum and Nature Preserve, on Saturday, November 1 at the preserve, located at W6219 Allman Ave., from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Kites will be provided while supplies last.
No matter your age, you too can appreciate the present and travel back in time at the Kuse Farm Museum and Nature Preserve.
