ATHENS
The Senior Citizens card group met on Sept. 18 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Three games of Sheepshead were played. Steve Klockziem won first place and Harold Weinke came in second in the first game. Henry Faber won first and Andy Hoef came in second in the second game. Norbert Lake won first and Dale Frank came in second in the third game.
Low score was Pat Frank. Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
Senior specialist
Adults are invited to drop by the Athens Branch Library on Wednesday, Oct. 1, between 1 and 3 p.m., to learn about essential programs for adults 60-plus or those with disabilities. ADRC’s resource specialist Jenny Pagel will hold open office hours to help others learn about resources available in Central Wisconsin. Resources include services like: benefit counseling, caregiver support, nutrition programs, volunteer opportunities and more. Navigating aging and disabilities can leave you feeling overwhelmed, but ADRC is here to help.

Toddler Time
Tots ages 2 and under are invited to an interactive, 20-minute story time designed just for them at the Athens Branch Library. The event will begin with a quick introduction, and then library staff will mix together fun stories, songs, rhymes and finger plays. Toddler Time is a great opportunity for parents and children to learn and bond together. The next Toddler Times will be Wednesdays, Oct. 1 and 15, from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m.. Bring your little ones, ages 3 to 5, to Preschool Story Time at the Athens Branch Library for funfilled stories and adventures. Library staff will build their imaginations through books, rhymes, music and interactive activities. Athens Book Club
The Athens Book Club will discuss “Good Omens” by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Athens Branch Library. In this classic comedy about Armageddon, an odd couple consisting of a fussy angel and loose-living demon have to come together to stop the Rapture and save the human world they’ve each grown surprisingly fond of. Kornack birth
A son, Emmett Greg Kornack, was born to Marissa and David Koranck, Marshfield, on September 13, 2025 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. He weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and was 21 inches long.
Drive-thru Chicken Dinner
The Edgar Lions would like to invite all Edgar area senior citizens to attend their annual Senior Citizen Drive-thru Chicken Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 16. Edgar Book Club
The Edgar Book Club will discuss “Where Coyotes Howl” by Sandra Dallas on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at noon at the Edgar Branch Library. The year is 1916 and school teacher Ellen Webster has fallen in love, both with the High Plains and a handsome cowboy. Others in rural Wyoming are not so lucky, and hardships are plenty for everyone.
