Fun Days
Queen candidates in Marathon were introduced at a Fun Days kick-off dinner held last week. Queen candidates are Cheryl Stieber and Bernadine Brill. The 15th annual Marathon Fun Days will follow a bicentennial theme. The annual event is sponsored by the American Legion.
Athens school
Work is continuing on construction of an addition to the Athens Elementary School. It’s expected the building will be enclosed by the time school starts on August 25, however, it will be some time before the instructional materials center and classrooms the addition houses will be in use. The addition replaces the old high school which wasn’t used by the school.
Telschow gets bank promotion
Mrs. Delores Telschow has been promoted to assistant cashier of the Abbotsford State Bank. Telschow has been with the bank since May 1969. She is in charge of the operational departments of the bank.

STH 29 ribbon cutting
Governor Tommy Thompson announced the completion of the 182-mile STH 29 corridor project between Chippewa Falls and Green Bay, a $450 million project that expanded the highway to four lanes and significantly improved safety. An official ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the Cenex and Snack Shack truck stop, CTH H and STH 29, highlighting a day-long parade of activities organized by the Village of Edgar and Edgar Area Business Association.
Celebrates 50 years
Sister Shirley Wagner, a native of Marathon, celebrated her 50th anniversary of her religious profession at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse. After entering the FSPA community, Sister Shirley spent three years in preparation for religious life before professing her first vows in 1950.
