Senior Card Group
The Senior Citizens card group met on Aug. 7 for weekly card playing at theAthensArea Fire andAmbulance Hall. Three games of Sheepshead were played. Rick Schaetzel won the first game, followed by Andy Hoef in second. Alvira Henrichs won the second game, followed by Harold Weinke in second. Norbert Lake came in first in the third game, followed by Steve Klockziem in second.
Low score was Henry Faber. Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
VFW Post 8527
TheAugust meeting of the VFW Post 8527 was called to order by Commander Rick Schaetzl with 16 members present. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Schaetzl read a thank-you from the family of Norman Leffel for the VFW’s military funeral honors at his burial.
A donation was received from Frank and Joy Redmann, and a thank-you was given.
Several updates to the beer bar area were pointed out, including a curtain on the east side of the bar, an updated donation board, and the purchase of a chest freezer.
Post 8527, along with the American Legion, will provide military honors for Mel Marohl on Aug. 8.
Lunch was provided by Cheryl Engel from the Ladies Auxiliary.
The next meeting be on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Attendance prizes were given to Archie Becker, Galen Schrieber and Jerry Passehl.
Outdoor photography
Adults and teens are invited to the Athens Branch Library on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 5:30-6:30 p.m. to meet with local photographer Chris Kepner for a guided photo walk at Erbach Park.
Participants will meet at the library and walk together to nearby Erbach Park, where Kepner will guide the group through the trails and offer tips and tricks on how to capture frame-worthy photos of the natural landscape. In the event of rain, a photography basics class will be held at the library.

Cozy Critters Craft
Kids are invited to stop by the Edgar Branch Library anytime between Aug. 14 and 16 to create adorable yarn sweaters for cardboard cutout critters. Decorate with beads, glitter, and other materials; there will be a variety of animals to choose from. Drop by anytime during open hours. Call 715-352-3155 for more information.
Concert in the Park
The Edgar Fine Arts Association will host its final Concert in the Park at Oak Street Park on Thursday, Aug. 14, with Jerry Schmitt
performing and St. Stephen Lutheran Church selling concessions
from to 7 to 9 p.m.
Family Story Times
Children ages 6 and under and their parents and caregivers are invited to the Edgar Branch Library on the first and third Tuesday of the month for Family Story Time. Enjoy learning with all of your children through stories, songs and other literature-based activities during this 30-minute program. Games at St. Stephen
St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 424 N. Third Ave., Edgar, will host card games in the church basement on Wednesdays, Aug. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be served. If you need a ride or have questions, call Mark at 715348-5802 or Colleen at 715-5718277.
Senior citizen passes
The annual free athletic passes for all citizens 62 years of age or older residing in the Edgar School District are now available for distribution. Passes are available in the high school office or from ticket sellers at events. Passes are not accepted for any WIAA tournament events that Edgar may host.
