Take your best shot

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just getting started, the Courier Sentinel wants to see your best photos, for their contest during the Cornell Community Fair. Any age can enter for free, up to three, 5x7 photos, for a chance at a $50 cash prize, if their photo is chosen as Best in Show.
“Maybe you don’t have the fanciest camera out there, but that’s alright,” said contest coordinator Ginna Young. “We just want to showcase the local talent we have and encourage others to delve into photography.”
Photo paper or digital submissions are not allowed, and printed photos must be unmounted (not attached to cardstock or framed). Categories to enter (one photo each) are Color, Black and White, and Edited (changed in some way from the original).
“They don’t have to be from this year, it can be from any time, as long as you’re the one who took the photo,” said Young.
A blind judging will take place in-house, with any ties broken by someone from outside the office. All decisions are final.
Ribbons will be awarded in each category, to first, second and third-place winners, with the first-place winners judged for the Best in Show award.
Entries will be accepted until Monday, June 9, with winners announced at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 15, at Mill Yard Park pavilion, during the fair. Photos can be picked up beginning Monday, June 16, at the Courier Sentinel office, during business hours.
Ribbons and photos will be held until July 18, then will be discarded.
“I hope this year, we see a lot of unique, unusual submissions,” said Young. “It’s whatever you think is your best shot.”
