Annual Taylor County Moving For a Cure set for May 19 Annual Taylor County Moving For a Cure set for May 19

The 8th annual Taylor County Moving for a Cure cancer fundraiser is set for Friday evening, May 19, at the Medford City Park. The event will offer a 50/50 raffle, gift card board, and raffle tickets for attendees to purchase tickets for chances to win prizes. Top prizes this year include 4 VIP Country Fest tickets donated by Prevail Bank, half a beef donated by Forward Bank and Investment Services, a Backyard Creations gas firepit donated by Stronger Version Fitness, a char griller donated by Edward Jones – Russ Jablonsky, and two $500 cash prizes donated by Abbyland Foods. Drawings will be held at 8 p.m. the evening of the event (need not be present to win). The Kiwanis will once again be offering food and beverages from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. for all to enjoy.

The Committee, made up of Carmen Thiede, Tammy Fieselman, Patty Krug, Sherry Meyer, Karen Dahlvig, Jannell Carlson, Jennifer Sobotta and Karen Kropp-Mueller, is organizing the fundraiser. The 5k Walk registration will start at 5:30 p.m. The opening ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. with our guest speaker, Cindy Ewoldt, providing their personal heartfelt journey with cancer. The walk will begin at approximately 7 p.m. Dove balloons will be available for purchase and released during the event in memory or in honor of loved ones affected by cancer.

Last year the event provided 42 individuals or families living in Taylor County experiencing cancer treatments with $1,000 stipends. All money raised continues to be disbursed locally to Taylor County residents undergoing cancer treatments regardless of income, insurance coverage, or where the treatment is received. The fund allocation will be based on the total amount raised on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Thiede said the Committee will once again work with the Taylor County Health Department to disburse money raised. Those seeking assistance must complete a simple grant application with the requirement that they must have lived in Taylor County for at least one year (since May 2022), are currently receiving cancer treatment from a licensed/ certified oncologist, and provide a letter from their oncologist stating they are or have received treatment since May 2022. Applications will be available beginning June 1 on our website (TCMoving4Cure. com) or from the Taylor County Health Department.

The Committee encourages individuals, teams, and businesses to take part in the event and support local cancer patients. Registration materials are available now and can be picked up at the Medford Chamber or K99 Radio, or visit our website at TCMoving4Cure.com. Raffle tickets are available at K99 Radio or the evening of the event.
