Medford waste treatment plant named Facility of the Year

Excellence is no accident when it comes to the Medford Wastewater Treatment Facility.
For years, the facility, which treats household, commercial and industrial waste in the city of Medford has received the highest marks possible on its annual compliance maintenance report cards and plant staff have been recognized as being among the top in the state and region.
Last week, the facility staff received recognition for their ongoing efforts with the Medford Wastewater Treatment Facility being named the Facility of the Year for 2022 by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wastewater Program.
“The city of Medford Wastewater Facility stands out from others in many ways. Firstly, the compliance history for the facility is outstanding. The facility had received an overall 4.0 grade on 17 of 18 CMARS from 2004 to present and there has only been one effluent exceedance in the past five years,” said Adrian Stocks, Water quality bureau director with the DNR.
“Secondly, staff at the facility have truly assumed leadership roles in northern Wisconsin. Medford recently installed terry filtration to meet stringent phosphorus limits, installed innovative new sludge thickening technology, and presents to organizations on bacteria testing,” he said.
“Thirdly, the city of Medford WWTF stands out due to the services that they provide to other communities. The facility staff provide expert guidance to other small facilities in the area through provision of operator in charge services, and the certified laboratory at the facility provides sample analytical services, to other facilities in need,” he said.
“Finally, it should be pointed out that the city of Medford somehow manages all these accomplishments with a staff of three. The city of Medford WWTF is an important asset to the state of Wisconsin,” Stocks said.
Staff from the Medford WWTF received the Facility of the Year recognition on February 16 at the Government Affairs Seminar held in Fond Du Lac.
