Copper Box Comes to Spencer’s Tack Center Jan. 22

One of the best Polka Fusion bands in the country, Copper Box will be stopping by Spencer’s LuCille Tack Center for the Arts on Saturday, January 22 at 7:30 pm. This Wisconsin-based group combines the musical styles of rock, zydeco and polka with a sprinkle of blues and country, creating a distinctive sound all their own. Add their charismatic stage presence to that unique sound and it becomes obvious why Copper Box has a place in the hearts of many – the group is just pure fun!

Band members Danny Jerabek, and his wife Michelle were both young when they started performing with their respective families. At age 9, Danny was given a Hohner accordion by his grandfather and taught himself how to play this particular instrument, as well as cornet, keys, harmonica, clarinet, sousaphone and the kitchen sink! During his early 20’s, Danny was inspired by Steve (Esteban) Jordan, “the Jimi Hendrix of Tejano accordion,” and began to “rock out” and improvise – thinking a little more “outside the box.” Currently endorsed by Hohner Accordions, Danny has been featured at International Accordion Festivals and nominated several times by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) as Wisconsin’s “Specialty Instrumentalist of the Year,” an award which he received two years in a row.

Michelle started singing with her grandfather’s band at age 10 and shortly thereafter picked up the saxophone, as well as guitar and flute. She was awarded WAMI’s “Reed Player of the Year 2017” and nominated again in 2020. Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame named her as the first female “Side Person of the Year.” Also nominated for a WAMI award (“Percussionist of the Year 2020”) is their current drummer, Dan Cable, aka D.C. Vegas.

In addition to Danny and Michelle, bass player extraordinaire, Dave Chyla, and drummer, Dan Cable, add the finishing touches to the good vibes of the Copper Box “sound.”

Audience beware: This is not a cookie cutter band! Copper Box has shared main stage festivals nationwide with artists such as: The Doobie Brothers, The Mavericks, The Little River Band, Buckwheat Zydeco, Little Feat, Little Big Town, Peter Frampton, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Lou Gramm, Marcia Ball, C.J. Chenier, Spin Doctors, Brave Combo, Terrance Simien, W.C. Clark, Los Lonely Boys and Huey Lewis. They have also been featured at the International Accordion Festival and the Cotati Accordion Festival in California, as well as being seen on national TV and Wisconsin Public Television.

For Copper Box, playing music is not just a job...it is a deep passion filled with sweat, tears and joy....and it shows every time they make music. With their multi-instrumental talents, unique arrangements, creative songwriting, and unforgettable stage presence, Copper Box delivers something special and is definitely worth a listen.
