10 Years Ago – 2010

The mandatory 10-digit dialing takes effect for the 715 area code, in an attempt by the Public Service Commission to ensure an adequate supply of phone numbers. Those with PBX systems, fax machines, dialup internet, life alert and alarms, will need to reset their systems to compensate for the change.

20 Years Ago – 2000

Cadott’s Dylan Scheidler, 25, qualifies for the Mr. America contest, after winning Mr. Wisconsin. Scheidler began bodybuilding when he was 19, and adheres to a strict regimen with his diet and power lifting.

30 Years Ago – 1990

The seventh annual Brunet Island Run takes place with 47 runners traversing either a 1 1/2-mile or 4-mile loop around the island. The event is sponsored by the Cornell Lions Club, Cornell Boosters Club and the Cornell IGA.

40 Years Ago – 1980

The Yellow River in Cadott, overflows its banks, after 9 inches of rain is dropped in the area. While there is no serious damage – other than to roads and basements – electric power was knocked out numerous times because of the storms.

50 Years Ago – 1970

Cornell Police Chief Wilbert Ruess says his police force will now wear the American Flag on their uniforms, as a symbol that they are the city’s guardians of life and property. The move to do so was sponsored by the American Federation of Police.

60 Years Ago – 1960

The Northern States Power Company (NSP) makes an offer to the Cadott Village, to purchase the power rights, according to village president Victor Stanley. If the agreement is reached, NSP would purchase the utility and equipment, and take over operation and distribution of the electric service.

100 Years Ago – 1920
