10 Years Ago – 2010

Cadott holds a send-off for members of the high school track team, who are off to State competition in relay, dash, hurdles, jumps and shot put events. Representing the Hornets at State, are Blake Johnson, Stephen Kelly, Tyler Pecha, Michael McConville, Tim McConville, Luke Smrecek, Jessica Soppeland, Nathan Spindler, Sydney Stephens, Josiah Yeager and Chris Zak.

20 Years Ago – 2000

Mark Porter becomes the new Lake Holcombe School principal/assistant administrator, taking over for retiring Donn Lapp, who served the district for 31 years. Porter taught in Auburndale, as well as an inner-city Milwaukee school.

30 Years Ago – 1990

Cadott Chamber of Commerce member Dan Schmitt gives the wooden “Welcome to Cadott” sign a fresh coat of varnish, as well as adding a portion at the bottom for directions pointing to Cadott’s downtown businesses. The sign is located just north of the village on State Hwy. 27.

40 Years Ago – 1980

The Cornell Summer Recreation Program goes a step farther in its course offerings and adds boys golf lessons. The leagues are for boys 11 years and older.

50 Years Ago – 1970

The Cadott VFW sponsors a bike taping event between Knitter Chevrolet and Cadott Lanes, taping reflective safety tape on anyone’s bicycle. The only cost for the event is a moment of someone’s time.

60 Years Ago – 1960

Harold Halverson retires from the Cornell Post Offi ce after 23 years. Halverson came to Cornell in 1917, and was employed as a substitute postal clerk, before he was appointed full-time in 1954.

100 Years Ago – 1920

Cornell’s new ferry is a very busy piece of machinery during the week, but especially on Sundays, as it carries vehicles across the Chippewa River, to and from the town. The count for one Saturday, was 209 cars ferried across and 57 teams.
