10 Years Ago – 2010

Cornell graduating senior Corey Hodowanic signs a Letter of Intent to wrestle for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Wrestling team. Hodowanic, who was a member of the Cornell- Gilman Wolfpack, was this year’s State champion in the 119-pound weight class.

20 Years Ago – 2000

The Cadott Cub Scouts look for people who want to divide and donate perennials for a community garden the kids are planting, located by Leiser Furniture on Main Street. If anyone wishes to purchase a plant in memory or honor of someone, the Scouts will also plant that.

30 Years Ago – 1990 Flater’s Resort in Holcombe, hosts their second annual triathalon, with 18, two-person teams competing. Taking the win for the second time, are Jim Delhanty and Kenny Cuehn, who shave off four minutes from last year’s finish time.

40 Years Ago – 1980

The Cadott Corner Store advertises fresh watermelons for $2.29 each, and free whipped topping with every $10 purchase.

50 Years Ago – 1970

Lyle Adrian, Cornell, is named as the Pacific Missile Range Sailor of the Quarter, for his professional ability, good humor and adaptability, and intense desire to assist others. Adrian received a plaque, recreation facility passes and a Letter of Commendation from Capt. James Money.

60 Years Ago – 1960

The opening date for Cadott’s Riverview swimming beach has not been determined, but Joan Miller will act as chief lifeguard. Last year, the beach was open by June 15, but weather conditions will dictate when the public can utilize the area.

100 Years Ago – 1920

W. J. Kent opens a new shoe repair and vulcanizing shop in the building back of the Byer’s Clothing store. Kent is thoroughly trained in his business, and ensures patrons that he will take care of their wishes in a satisfactory and timely manner.
