Bill Stoll, Pike Lake Bass Club, presents Andrea Smith $150 toward the Cornell-Holcombe Camaraderie Club Support the Troops program, to mail out care packages to overseas soldiers. Stoll added an additional $50 of his own money, in honor of Pike Lake member Justin Scheidler, who is serving in Iraq.

20 Years Ago – 2000

Renata Pakostva, Czech Republic, appears at the Bohemian Hall north of Cadott, to discuss her culture and speak Czechoslovakian with Bohemian transplants. Pakostva is an exchange student at McDonell High School.

30 Years Ago – 1990

Judy Hurlburt wins Mrs. Photogenic in the Mrs. Wisconsin International Pageant at Stevens Point. The 38-year-old former Cornell woman is married to her husband, Brent, and is the mother of two sons.

40 Years Ago – 1980

Cadott High School seniors Carl Gingras and Mary Jahnke have poems published in the Young Voices in America Poetry compilation, with their school library receiving a copy. Gingras had one poem selected for the publication, while Jahnke had two of three submissions chosen.

50 Years Ago – 1970

Residents are reminded that burning permits are required when disposing of dead branches and leaves, and that the ones burning are responsible for maintaining control of the fire. Restrictions include no burning on Sundays or holidays.

60 Years Ago – 1960

Preliminary census figures show that the Cadott population has increased by 11 percent over the last 10 years. According to the county, the population jumped from 791 to 879, proving that Cadott is a popular spot for anyone looking to raise a family.

100 Years Ago – 1920

Albert Harm, proprietor of the River View Hotel in Cornell, sells his holdings to Adolph Adolphi. Adolphi is one of Estella’s most successful farmers, so it is likely his new endeavor will be fruitful.
