The Cadott Youth Spirit Squad was started in August 2014, after coach Alissa Urbanek was at a sporting event in Cornell, and saw “the cutest dancers” perform at a halftime game. Urbanek knew a squad was what Cadott needed, and knew she could do it.

The troop of girls began performing at Cadott sporting events, showing their spirit for the athletics programs.

“It has been an amazing ride,” said Urbanek. “I’m beyond blessed to have shared this adventure with the community. I couldn’t imagine my life without the spirit squad. It will always hold a very special place in my heart.”

Those words come with the announcement Urbanek is stepping down after this season. Urbanek says it was a hard decision, but that she knew it was time to pass the torch to another coach.

With that said, Jill Tomkowiak will be introduced as the new coach.

“My daughter has been with the spirit squad since she was in 4K (2016) and has such passion for it,” said Tomkowiak. “I remember enjoying our dance routines while being a cheerleader at Cadott High back in the ’90s, and I simply couldn’t let this great activity disappear and not give future generations this opportunity.”

Tomkowiak said she made the decision to try her best to keep the Spirit Squad going, when Urbanek announced the time had come for her to step down as coach.

“It’s just amazing to watch these little girls fill the crowd with such school spirit,” said Tomkowiak.

Urbanek says she will miss coaching and is grateful to the performers, assistant coaches, parents, community and the Cadott School District for all their support.

“Your support keeps the program alive,” said Urbanek.
