Summer reading offers ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ Summer reading offers ‘Oceans of Possibilities’

Are you looking for something to do with your kids this summer? Maybe something educational? If that’s the case, Frances L. Simek Memorial Library is holding events for their summer reading program until the end of July and they would love for you to join in on the fun and educational activities. The summer reading program is called Oceans of Possibilities and it began on June 1 and is running until July 28.

This program provides crafts, story telling, and live performances. The program also encourages summer reading through their prize drawings. All ages can check out books in order to enter the prize drawings. Events are held every week on Monday and Wednesday.

STORIES AND CRAFTS

On Mondays at 1:00 pm, teachers from Medford Area Public Schools will come in and read stories about different ocean animals as well as lead the children in a craft activity. These events include the following: Monday, June 6, Heidi Leiby will be talking about starfish.

Monday, June 13, Lynn Coyer will be talking about the library fish.

Monday, June 20, Stacy Leonard will be talking about sharks.

Monday, June 27, Kathy Schumacher will be talking about otters.

Monday, July 11, Stacy Leonard will be talking about octopuses.

Monday, July 18, Lynn Coyer will be talking about pirates.

PERFORMANCES

On Wednesdays at 1:00 pm, the Medford Recreation Commission will be sponsoring live performances. These performances include the following: Wednesday, June 8, there will be the Magic of Isaiah magic show.

Wednesday, June 15, musician Randy Peterson will be performing.

Wednesday, June 22, there will be Nate and Dustin’s Magic show.

Wednesday, June 29, there will be the magic show Mischief and Magic.

Wednesday, July 6, there will be 4-H Ocean Steam Activities.

Wednesday, July 13, the event will be Dinosaur Dimensions.

Wednesday, July 20, there will be live animals from Nature’s Niche.

The library will also be holding a summer party on July 27 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. There will be balloons, face painting, games, pizza, and ice cream.
