The following students have earned Citizen Scholar at Marathon Venture Academy for Trimester 1. Citizen Scholars are students that have met criteria centered around high levels of proficiency in both academics and behavior.

Hall of Fame

The Marathon Red Raider Hall of Fame committee is accepting nominations for the 2022 Hall of Fame class.

Past nominees not yet selected do not need to be nominated again and are eligible in succeeding years.

Nominations will be accepted until Wednesday, June 15. Recipients will be notified by Friday, July 15. A 2022 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be the Sunday following the Marathon Athletic Club golf outing.

River float

The Marathon Lions Club will sponsor an inner tube, kayak or canoe float on the Big Rib River on Sunday, June 12, from Rib Falls to the Rib River Ballroom to support Marathon City park restoration.

Contest winners

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Education contest winners at St. Mary’s School, Marathon, include Luke Cihlar, first in essay; Rehgan Martin, second in essay; Layla Thomsen, second in art; Oliver Kramm, third in art; and Taunna Rindt, third in essay. Cihlar has advanced to the next round of the contest.

First communicants

St. Mary’s Church, Marathon, has announced children who have had first communion. Nora Soczka made her First Holy Communion on April 16. Children scheduled to have their First Holy Communion on April 24 include Nataly Bailon, Eve Marin, Colton Bohn, Kirby Marin, Harer Deaver, Oliver Marin, Hanna Dodson, Vaida Mechelke, Alaia Erdman, Emmett Murkowski, Brennan Erdman, Charles Peck, Thorsten Frahm, Harvey Podjaski, William Gruetzmacher, Nola Rasmussen, Johnathan Hummer, Katherine Riehle, Azalea Jacobson, August Schliepp, Zayla Johnson, Natalie Schroder, Anna Kaldunski, Alyssa Schulz, Jozlyn Laher, Boden Seubert, Corbin Lawrence, Abigail Seubert, Augustine Loepfe, Henry Szymanski, Adam Marek and Teagon Vang.

The Marathon Area Elementary School and Marathon Venture Academy PTO will host a Daddy and Daughter Dance on Saturday, April 30, in the school gymnasium from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. DJ for the event will be Outer Limits.

Grandfathers, uncles or other adults are welcome at the dance.

Garage sales

Band concerts

A Marathon Venture Academy/ High School vocal concert will be presented Monday, May 9, at 7 p.m.

First and second graders at Marathon Area Elementary School will present a music concert on Monday, May 2, at 5 p.m. Third and fourth graders will have a concert on Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m.

All of the concerts will be held in the Marathon High School auditorium.

Preservation month

May is Preservation Month and ithe Marathon County Historical Society has planned an open house, a walking tour, and a book event.

“Our House Full of History” will be on Saturday, May 14, from 1-4 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to see parts of our collections that are usually stored behind closed doors. See how the historiucal society collects, pre- serves and stores things.

Also on Saturday May 14. the Historical Society and Janke Bookstore will host author Janet Newman to discuss her new book, “Letters from Clara: One Intrepid Woman’s Travels on the Eve of War, 1936-1939.” Books will be available for purchase and signing.

“Tales Between Two Depots” on Sunday, May 15, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. is a preservation walking tour from the Grant Street Depot to the Depot on Stewart Ave. Reenactors at seven tour stops give a glimpse of what life in Wausau was like around the turn of the century. Walk the route in any order or hop on and off the Kolbe & Kolbe Trolley.
