What colors create a rainbow? You’ll be able to find out when you create a 3D rainbow mobile using strips of paper, cotton balls, string, beads, and a craft stick. This Grab and Go kit is available from the Marathon City Branch Library during the month of March. The library will provide instructions on how to put it all together. Not only is mobile colorful, but children will learn to work with knots and to string beads.

Little treasures

Stop by the Marathon City Branch Library in March and pick up a kit to make your own colorful pom pom garland craft at home.

The library will provide patrons with instructions and supplies, including pom poms and twine. This is a fun craft that makes a great little decoration for just about any spot.

“Little Treasures” is a monthly DIY grab and go craft for adults. Patrons will be given materials and directions to create their own “little treasure” that can be given as a gift, or kept for yourself.

There is a limit of one kit per person, available with no appointment needed. Call the Marathon City library at 715-443-2775 for a pick-up appointment.

Virtual Book Club

The Marathon County Virtual Book Club will discuss “Dear Edward” by Ann Napolitano on Monday, March 8, 5:45 po.m. to 6:45 p.m. The discussion will be held on the GoTo-Meeting online platform.

St. Anthony’s

St. Anthony’s Spirituality Center will sponsor a retyreat, “A Time to Heal: A Retreat for Those Left Behind by Suicide,” on Friday through Sunday, March 12-14. Participants in this retreat will have opportunities to engage in quiet reflection and make connections with others who have lost a loved one to suicide. Prayer services, including a service of remembrance and healing for those who have been lost, will be part of the weekend.

The presenter is Catherine Kuschel, a licensed mental health therapist and drug and alcohol abuse counselor in Minnesota. She is an ordained minister in the Episcopal Church, serving a congregation in New Richmond.

Birth

A daughter, Aubree Jean, was born Feb. 16, 2021, to Bradley Klimpke and Naomi Volm at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital. The infant weighed six pounds, nine ounces and measured 20 inches at birth.

COVID dashboard

Marathon Public Schools reported zero cases of COVID- 19 as of Feb. 18 out of 852 staff and students.

On a mission

The Mission Carnival held at St. Mary’s School, Marathon, during Catholic Schools Week raised $1,697 for a sister parish in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and Casa Hogar, Juan Pablo II Mission Orphanage in Peru.

History chats

The Marathon County Historical Society will offer a new series of their popular “History Chats” virtual programs about Marathon County.

Past History Chats series focused first on schools of the county, and then hospitals and early medicine in the area. In February, they’re bringing the “People You Should Know” series to share information about important people in the rich history of Marathon County.

All History Chats programs will be broadcast live simultaneously via Zoom, the Historical Society’s Facebook page and its YouTube channel. If you can’t join them live for these 10-15 minute presentations, you can watch archived recordings anytime at the same places. The programs are all on Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The schedule of “People You Should Know” is as follows:

_ Feb. 25: Helen Stephenson: Wausau’s First Policewoman These programs, which are a collaborative effort between the Historical Society and the Marathon County Public Library, are free to watch and open to all ages with no registration required. Need help using your computer, tablet, smartphone or e-reader?

Marathon County Public Library staff can provide assistance in a variety of areas, including basic computer skills, saving and moving digital files, using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), using the library’s online resources and more.
