UW-La Crosse has named Marathon students to its dean’s list for the fall semester of the 2020-21 academic school year. To be eligible, students must have earned not less than a 3.5 semester grade point average and carried a minimum of 12 credits. The students are Anna Buchberger, archaeological studies; Samuel Fritz, sociology; Casey Krasselt, geography; Kara Krautkramer, biology; Mitchell Kurtz, biology; Ally Phakitthong, middle childhood through early adolescence education.

Northcentral Technical College, Wausau, has included Marathon students on its president’s list for outstanding academic achievement for the fall 2020 term. To be on the list, students must earn a 3.75 grade point average or above and successfully complete a minimum of six credits. The students are Kylee Belan, Makayla Folan, Joshua Heerts, Tracy Hoefs, Jaicee Kunkel, Bryce Mathwich, Erika Moore, Jace Myszka, Elizabeth Nowak, Cheryl Rainville and Noah Streveler.

UW-Oshkosh has put Marathon students on its dean’s list and honor roll for the fall 2020 semester. To qualify, a student must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits. The term GPA requirement for the honor roll is 3.3; the term GPA requirement for dean’s list is 3.75 out of a possible 4.0. The students are Ariana Blair, a senior, honor roll; Rebekah Henrichs, freshman, honor roll; and Kory Wokatsch, freshman, honor roll.

Birth

A daughter, Aria Ashley, was born Jan. 14, 2021, to Derek and Mackenzie Landwehr, Wausau, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital. The infant weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and measured 20 inches at birth.

The grandparents are Lorell and Julie Landwehr, Marathon, Craig and Karen Schemenauer, Edgar, and Pat and Lisa Fraser, Stevens Point.

Youth group

The youth group at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marathon, will meet Sunday, Feb. 21, 2 p.m. at Marathon City Sports Center for fun and bowling. For more information, call 715-432-5501 or 715-443-5420.

St. Anthony’s

St. Anthony’s Spirituality Center, Marathon City, will offer a retreat, “The Language of the Emotions” on Saturday, Feb. 20, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with Elizabeth Lewis as presenter. The retreat will be held at the retreat center but also over the Zoom computer platform.

The workshop will teach how to skillfully work with your own and other’s emotions with fluency and ease. The workshop experience will include discussion, visual journaling, writing, guided meditations and visualizations.

History chats

The Marathon County Historical Society will offer a new series of their popular “History Chats” virtual programs about Marathon County.

Past History Chats series focused first on schools of the county, and then hospitals and early medicine in the area. In February, they’re bringing the “People You Should Know” series to share information about important people in the rich history of Marathon County.

All History Chats programs will be broadcast live simultaneously via Zoom, the Historical Society’s Facebook page and its YouTube channel. If you can’t join them live for these 10-15 minute presentations, you can watch archived recordings anytime at the same places. The programs are all on Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The schedule of “People You Should Know” is as follows:

_ Feb. 25: Helen Stephenson: Wausau’s First Policewoman These programs, which are a collaborative effort between the Historical Society and the Marathon County Public Library, are free to watch and open to all ages with no registration required.
