Paper crafts
End 2019 by making some cute and creative paper decorations and ornaments during a two-day event at the Marathon Branch Public Library. The public can drop in any time the branch is open on either Monday or Tuesday, Dec. 30 or 31, to participate.
Using pages from old books and other scrap paper, attendees of this event will make festive origami and other folded paper shapes, including stars, houses, wheels and butterflies. All supplies will be provided.

Basketball clinic
A Little Red Raiders basketball clinic series will be held on Saturday mornings in early 2020 at the Marathon Area Elementary School gymnasium. The clinic dates are Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25.
An 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. session will be held for plays in grades 5K through 2. Players in grades three and four have a 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. session.
Adam Jacobson will be the clinic coach assisted by Phil Seubert, Claude Seubert, Todd Stoffel, Chuck Woelfel, Alex Blume and this year’s high school basketball team players.

Food drive
The Arrow Tap, Marathon, will hold its fourth annual Circle of Joy Food Drive through Tuesday, Dec. 31.
Donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, and monetary donations for local families will be appreciated. The donations will be presented to the Edgar/Marathon Circle of Joy in early January.
Rib Falls HCE
A Rib Falls HCE Christmas party was held Dec. 11 at the home of president Judy Baeseman. The club had a potluck lunch along with Christmas punch. After lunch, members visited and sang Christmas songs, including “Joy to The World” and “Jingle Bells.”
A birthday song was sung to Diane Obermeyer while she opened her gift from her Secret Pal. The club then revealed Secret Pals.
Club members picked an ornament with a name attached for the 2020 Secret Pal. A “Left and Right” game was played for the hostess gift give away. Host Judy Baeseman received the prize.
Roll call was what is the best thing that happened to you in 2019.
The club had seven members present, with one member absent. Christmas bingo was played with all receiving prizes.
The next meeting will be Jan. 8, 2020. The club will have installation of officers, and members will be going through new HCE booklets.
Trip support
Kurt-n-Jo’s Restaurant in Marathon City has offered to host “Washington Wednesdays” in support of a Marathon Venture Academy trip to Washington, D.C.
Kurt-n-Jo’s will donate 10 percent of Wednesday sales (dine-in, take-out, and ice cream) from 4-8 p.m. to the student trip. The fundraiser will last through Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020.
Book Club
The Marathon Book Club will discuss “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah at the Marathon Branch Public Library on Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
