$20K requested to extend ‘Green For Green’ efforts
WHERE THE WELLS ARE - The map above shows all of the wellhead protection areas in Marathon County, locations where municipal wells are often surrounded by agricultural operations using fertilizers and pesticides. In an attempt to curb the amount of nitrates making it into the water table near these wells, Marathon County Conservation, Planning and Zoning is asking for $20,000 to convert traditional farmland into prairie grass. A prairie conversion has already been completed near Athens.
