â– June 30 - An officer received a report of a found dog in Colby. The dog was transported to the kennel in Abbotsford. The dog had been previously picked up on May 1 and another time in 2024. The owner had been issued a citation for the incident on May 1. The dog was later returned to its owner and a citation was issued.
■July 2 - An officer responded to an animal complaint regarding an incident that had occurred in the parking lot of a restaurant in Abbotsford. The complainant said they had exited their vehicle and noticed a pickup truck drive past. They were standing near their vehicle with their spouse, and as the black pickup truck passed by, two pitbulllooking dogs jumped out of the vehicle and came running at them. One of the pitbulls scratched their spouse’s arm as they pushed the dogs away. The complainant said the owners of the dogs came and got them right away.
The officer ran a check on the license plate provided. The plate came back to a pickup truck registered to a business. The officer attempted to call the company several times, but the phone number came back as out of service.
â– July 5 - An officer received a complaint regarding an individual who attempted to start a fight with the complainant while they were working the previous night. The complainant said the individual was upset with them for dating a girl the individual had previously been in a relationship with. The complainant said they found the individual outside of their residence, pouring weed killer into the gas tank of their motor bike. The individual had also stolen four power tools that had been in a vehicle outside of their house.
On July 6, the officer was notified that the individual had been arrested overnight, and the power tools had been located in the bed of the truck they had been driving. The officer secured the tools at the police station until they could be returned to the complainant.
â– July 6 - An officer responded to a fight in progress at a gas station in Abbotsford. While en route, the officer was advised that the parties had moved to another parking lot nearby. Upon arrival, the officer observed a vehicle parked on the east side of the building. A female individual was observed yelling at a male individual.
The officer met with the couple and separated them. The female was calm, but visibly upset. The officer asked her what had occurred. She said they had been at a cabin over the weekend and were on their way home. Due to the male’s license being expired, she was driving, as she had a valid license. She said she does not drive often and is a not very good driver, and because of this, the male had been “nitpicking” her driving, which made her upset. She told the male that she needed a break and stopped at the gas station.
While parked at the gas station, they started to argue, to the point of screaming at each other. She said she told the male that she wished to have a family member come pick her up.
She eventually got into the passenger seat and the male assumed driving, but when they left the gas station parking lot, she told him that she wanted to get out of the car. She then opened the door while the vehicle was moving. The male quickly pulled into the parking lot of the neighboring business. As he pulled into the parking lot, she hit him multiple times due to her being upset with him. She then exited the car and told him she wanted to be alone. She then ran to the east side of the building to get away from him. The male eventually drove up next to her and they continued to argue until the officer arrived. She said the male had never been physical with her and that she was upset with him, but not fearful of him.
The officer then spoke with the male. The male gave the officer the same account of events. He stated that he pulled into the gravel parking lot and the female started hitting him all over his arms, side, and head. The male said he did not want to pursue any charges against her. No injuries were observed on either individual.
The male stated that the female party then got out of the car and started to run towards the building. He said he followed her and they continued to argue. The officer was aware that a witness on scene had described the male speeding and fishtailing throughout the gravel parking lot after the female was out of the vehicle. The witness had said they felt that the male was in close proximity to hitting the female as she was running away. The officer asked the male about the witness statement. The female said she didn’t think he was close to hitting her, but she did not look back when she ran away. She said she had run because she was upset and wanted her own space. The male advised the officer that female party had been suffering with mental health issues lately, but also understood that his behavior was unacceptable.
The female was placed under arrest for domestic battery and disorderly conduct. She was transported to the Marathon County Jail. The male received a criminal referral of domestic disorderly conduct.
