n August 21 - An officer was dispatched to the intersection of North Division Street near Elderberry Road in the city of Colby for a two vehicle crash. Dispatch advised one of the vehicles involved in the crash was laying on its side. The officer arrived and met with a bystander who said he talked to the male driver who appeared to jump out of the sun roof of the vehicle and took off running southbound towards the Shell Gas Station. The officer informed dispatch to have several other officers search the area for a male wearing dark clothing.
The officer made contact with a woman who was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle. The vehicle had a lot of front end damage making the vehicle disabled. The officer asked the woman what happened. The woman said she was driving northbound on North Division Street and said as she approached the intersection of North Division Street and Elderberry Road, she noticed a silver SUV attempting to turn eastbound. The woman said she struck the silver SUV in the middle of the front passenger door near the rear passenger door making the vehicle go on its side with the drivers side of the vehicle on the ground.
The woman was then transported to a local hospital by Central Fire and EMS personnel. The officer looked in the driver’s seat of the man’s vehicle for any identification of the individual driving the vehicle. The officer located a clear tube that had what appeared to be a marijuana blunt inside of it. On the back of the tube it said there was 300mg of marijuana or THC. The officer took the tube and placed it in an evidence bag. Two tow trucks arrived and removed the two vehicles.
The officer transported the marijuana back to the department. The blunt weighed 1.6 grams and tested presumptively positive for CBD.
n August 24 - An officer received a phone call from a complainant who said there was a man in the road yelling who was obviously drunk at 2:23 in the morning. The officer drove to the location and did not observe anyone in the middle of the street. The officer did find a male walking on the sidewalk nearby. The officer parked his vehicle on the side of the road and went to speak to the man.
The officer asked the man if he was yelling in the street. The man appeared to be very intoxicated as he was swaying while he stood and slurred his speech. The man said he was yelling in the street because a kid was chasing his kid on his yard. The officer asked when this had happened.
The man said he was at a bar that night when his wife called and told him that a boy who lived near where the man was yelling was chasing his son in his backyard. The man went on to inform the officer that the boy had assaulted his son a few weeks back.
The officer asked the man if he would like to report what had happened with his son that night. The man said no because the officer couldn’t do anything to juveniles anyway. The officer said he could send a report to social services about what was going on. The man said he would handle it himself. The officer asked how long ago it happened and asked if the other boy was still around. The man said it happened about six hours prior to the officer and man’s conversation.
The officer asked why, six hours later, he was yelling on the street. The man said he had been drinking heavily since then and is angry about the boy being on his property and chasing his son. The officer advised the man that sometimes Social Services works slow and there could still be repercussions for the boy.
The man had his left hand in his pocket and the officer could see an object silhouetted through his athletic shorts. The officer asked what was in the man’s pocket and the man pulled out a 16 ounce beer can. The officer asked the man what his intentions were tonight and the man pointed to the beer. The officer asked if the man was going to go home now and the man said the officer could leave. The officer said he would stay until the man walked back home.
The officer ran the man’s information through dispatch who advised the man has a non-extraditable warrant out of Florida. The officer advised the man of the warrant and told the man to go home and go to bed.
The officer cleared from the scene but observed the man sat on the grass and did not leave. The officer parked at a nearby business and watched the man and after a minute, the man started walking towards his residence. The officer patrolled the area heavily for the next hour but did not observe the man or anyone else.
n August 24 - An officer was made aware of a complaint from a woman involving her son. The officer went to meet with the woman and her son at their residence. The woman said she was tired of her son getting into fights with another boy. The woman said the feud has been going on for almost two years and led to physical injury recently.
The officer asked the boy what happened. He said that he had left a fall sport practice and was biking down the sidewalk. When he got to an intersection he saw the boy and another friend walking on the sidewalk he was on. The other boy called out his name and when the boy on the bike asked him what he wanted, the boy started running at him and chasing him.
The boy got home and ran inside telling his mom that he was being chased. The mother went outside and did not see anyone on the sidewalk. The woman spoke with employees at local businesses asking if they witnessed anyone being chased. Both places said they did not see anything.
The woman said she continued on with what she was doing and about an hour later, the boy yelled that the suspect was walking outside their house. The woman said she ran out of the house and saw the suspect walking across the road and said they were walking very slowly looking at her house. The woman said she started yelling to the suspect asking what his problem was with her son and why they were by her house. The boy and other person continued on without saying anything to her.
The officer left some statement forms for the boy and his mother to fill out. The officer went to the suspect’s house to speak with him about the incident. The suspect denied chasing the boy and said that he was walking his puppy with a friend.
The officer asked the boy what his problem was with the other boy and he said he had no problem. The boy eventually said that the mother had came out of the house and was yelling at them as they walked the dog. The officer told the boy it was because she was told that he had been chasing her son.
The suspect never admitted chasing the boy or saying anything while he biked by but suspected the officer was there because the boy had yelled that he was going to call the cops on the suspect. The officer told the suspect to avoid the boy and if the boy started anything, he needed to let the police department know first.
