n July 9 - An officer was advised of a theft complaint. Dispatch advised that a woman had her Apple Watch stolen from her while in Abbotsford. The officer drove to the woman’s home to make contact with the complainant. The woman said she was at a business in Colby and her watch was taken from her in the bathroom. The woman said she entered the bathroom and took items out of her purse. She said her Apple Watch was in her purse and must have fallen onto the ground without her knowledge. The woman said she did not immediately know the watch was missing as she believed it was still in her purse.

The woman said her watch was taken from the bathroom as she utilized the “find my watch” feature on her phone showing the watch was currently in the city of Marshfield. This feature showed an accurate location of the device over different time intervals. The woman showed the officer the previous locations for the phone. The woman updated the GPS location on the watch which showed it to be at a grocery store in Marshfield. The woman provided the officer with the exact price she paid for the watch and gave the officer the serial number. The woman said she did not give anyone permission to take the watch and signed a lack of consent form.

The woman said she did not have an idea who took it but said she believed she lost it in the women’s bathroom so the suspect was most likely a female.

The officer said he would contact the Marshfield Police Department to have them attempt to locate the watch. The woman was instructed to contact the CAPD if the watch displayed an updated location. The woman said she would like to contact the Marshfield Police Department to accompany them on their attempt so she could utilize the audible alarm which is produced by the watch in case of it being lost. The woman was instructed to contact the Marshfield Police Department to see if that was OK with them. The officer made contact with the Marshfield department later that day.

The man said the truck is owned by his son and said he will take the truck to the car wash to see if the spots come off and if it does not work, he will try buffing the spots out.

Later that working shift, the officer observed a similar truck parked at a local business and went to investigate it. The officer entered the business and made contact with a male individual working behind the counter. The officer asked whose truck was outside and the male said it was his.

The officer asked to speak with the male outside and provided him with the photo that was taken.

The male said it appeared to be his truck. The officer asked the male if he was doing “donuts” or any other type of exhibition driving in the parking lot. The man hesitated and then said he did. The officer arrived and spoke with the city employee who said the men had been filling up the water tank on their boss’s orders and had called their boss to verify.

The city employee had the boss’s contact information and said that the boss had started an account with the city to allow the tanks to be filled. The city employee called the Colby clerk’s office and verified that they were in the process of setting up the account. The account was not yet finalized however. The men were told to leave until the account was finalized through the city and they did so without issue.

The officer arrived and identified the vehicle in question. The officer identified the driver who said she was waiting for her partner to get done with work and thought this was a safe place for her to wait. The officer told the woman that there were complaints and it was making the neighbors feel uncomfortable. The officer ran the woman through dispatch and was told she had a warrant through Clark county. The officer placed the woman under arrest for the warrant and was transported to a nearby bank so she could pull out money to pay the warrant. The bathroom turned out to be the wrong one and the man inside the bathroom came out and was very upset about the pounding on the door.

The woman and her friend attempted to apologize for the misunderstanding. The fiance then came out of the bathroom and saw that the man had been yelling at his fiance. The woman’s fiance pushed the man back from the woman and told him to not speak to her that way. The woman said the suspect punched her fiance in the face and ran back to where his friends were.

The officer asked the woman to have her fiance come over and speak to the officer and he did so. The man described the situation the same way the woman did and said he did not need medical attention. The man said he did not want anything done at that time.

The man said he had not seen the group of people since the incident. The officer said if he changed his mind and wanted something done, to let the officer know. The officer had no further complaints from the man or his fiance that night.

The officer then talked to the man who was initially standing next to the vehicle who admitted to being the driver during the incident. The man said when he attempted to turn, he did not turn far enough and ended up striking the bush or tree stump.

The officer noticed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the man’s breath during their interaction and asked how much the man had to drink that night.

The man said he had two beers and agreed to perform the standardized field sobriety tests. The man went through the tests and then agreed to a preliminary breath test. The officer noticed the front and rear passenger tires were completely deflated. There was also damage to both the front passenger and rear passenger rims as there were several scratches and dents. The man said he struck a curb as he was driving.

The officer told the man that you do not blow tires by just striking the curb unless you are driving at a high rate of speed. The man said he was driving southbound on South Fourth Street when he struck the curb and then drove his vehicle to the business to park it until morning. As he was talking to the man, the officer could smell the strong odor of alcohol coming from the man’s breath. The man said he had one bottle of beer but the officer observed there to be several bottles of beer inside the vehicle that appeared to be opened with beer inside of them yet.

The man said he was parked inside of the vehicle near the Colby Cheese Days carnival. The man then said he left the carnival and drove to a friend’s residence in Abbotsford and when he left the friend’s house, that is when he struck the curb.

The officer asked the man if he would be willing to perform field sobriety tests and the man agreed. The man then agreed to a preliminary breath test which displayed a .184 result.
