n March 15 - An officer observed a vehicle traveling in Abbotsford and upon running the registration of the vehicle, the officer observed the registered owners as not having a suspended driver’s license.

The officer made a traffic stop of the vehicle and met with the driver. The officer ran the man through dispatch and was told he has a suspended driver’s license status and an open warrant through Outagamie County. Dispatch confirmed the warrant.

The officer explained the warrant to the man who said he had the full bondable amount on him. The officer placed the man under arrest and transported him to the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department. The man posted the full bond amount and was issued a citation for operating while suspended. The man was then released.

n March 18 - An officer took a vandalism complaint in the City of Abbotsford. The officer met with a resident who showed the officer a row of mailboxes near a trailer court in Abbotsford. The mailboxes had been broken off the piece of metal they had been bolted to. The man thought it had happened during the previous night as they had not been like that the day prior.

The man said he would notify his landlord about the damage but said he did not notice if any of his mail was missing. There were no tracks or footprints in the loose snow. The officer said he would attempt to review video from across the street during the next business day that he was working.

n March 18 - An officer was on patrol in Abbotsford when he observed a vehicle traveling 44 mph in a 25 mph zone. As the officer pulled out to catch up to the vehicle, the officer observed the vehicle speed up. As the officer traveled into a posted 45 mph zone, the officer estimated he was traveling approximately 65 mph in order to catch up to the vehicle.

The officer caught up to the vehicle and initiated the traffic stop of the vehicle. The officer met with the driver who handed the officer an ID and said he was coming from an apartment complex in Abbotsford. The officer observed the strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle while speaking to the man.

The man said he had five beers to drink that night. The officer looked up the man’s information on the Wisconsin DOJ system which showed the man to not have a valid driver’s license.

The officer transported the man to the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department to perform field sobriety tests due to the negative wind chill temperatures.

The man went through the tests and was placed under arrest for operating while under the influence. The man was issued citations for operating without a valid license, exceeding speed zones (16-19 mph), operating while under the influence and operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration.

The man was then released to a responsible party. n March 19 - An officer was traveling in the City of Colby when he observed a vehicle traveling south on North Division Street that was traveling faster than the speed limit of 45 mph. The officer also observed the vehicle to have a defective front passenger side headlight. The officer pulled the vehicle over and made contact with the driver. While speaking to the driver, the officer noticed an open bottle of beer in the center console cup holder. The driver handed the bottle to the officer who discarded the contents onto the ground. The man said he was going home from work and said he got the beer from a gas station. The man said he bought a “30-pack” of beer at the gas station but had gotten the bottle of beer from a bar in Perkinstown. The man said he had three bottles of beer to drink that night and said he left the 30-pack of beer in Medford with his boss. The officer observed the man to have glossy eyes and slow speech.

The officer ran the man’s information through the Wisconsin Department of Justice system and found that the man had one prior OWI conviction. The man consented to field sobriety tests and refused a preliminary breath test.

The officer placed the man under arrest for operating while under the influence and transported him to the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department.

The man was issued citations for exceeding speed zones (1-10 mph), operating while under the influence (second offense) and operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration. He was then released to a responsible party.
