Loyal students attend conference, enjoy Easter and learn to sew
As shown below right, Loyal FCCLA members recently attended the Wisconsin FCCLA Leadership Conference in Wisconsin Dells. Eight members earned the right to compete in the state STAR events (Students Taking Action for Recognition). Other members attended business meetings and breakout sessions on topics such as yoga, Zumba, cookie decorating, and nursing or teaching as a career. A total of 14 members attended the three-day event.
Three of our members (bottom left) had a particularly successful competition day. Hope Peroshek in job interview, and Noelle Teschner and Parker Smith in repurpose and redesign qualified to compete in the National STAR events in Denver July 2–6. Summer Smith earned a bronze in interior design. Earning silver awards were Sam Lathrop in baking and pastry, Jordynn Corder in job interview, and Olivia Nikolai and Payton Tsai in repurpose and redesign.
Above right, the Easter Bunny made his appearance at the Loyal Area Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt. A group of assistants from FCCLA showed up the day before Easter to help “hide” the eggs, and then supervised the hunters to make sure everyone was safe. Special thanks to the Easter Bunny for all the smiles he brought to the participants young and old.
The eighth-grade exploring class learned some sewing and culinary skills during their six-week rotation in the family and consumer science program. They made magic pillowcases (right) out of their choice of fabrics to decorate their bedrooms at home. Some pillowcases will be kept at school and donated to Social Services.
Students also selected and prepared a meal for their class on their final day (shown above left). The menu consisted of hamburgers with the fixings, lettuce salad, fresh fruit, coleslaw and a choice of several desserts. Burgers were cooked on our new griddle. Following the feast, everyone pitched in to clean all dishes, cooking utensils, prep and dining surfaces, and anything else that needed a good cleaning.
