Stop by for food and dessert at The Village Scoop

Mary Scheidler and her fiance, Kelly Turner, have talked about opening an ice cream shop, complete with a menu of burgers and fries, for the past 10-12 years.
However, their busy lives kept their dream at bay.
“One day, I was driving by and saw Kathy’s Diner for sale,” said Scheidler.
By May 14, they bought the building on the corner of Mill Street and State Hwy. 27 in Cadott and began making changes. The Village Scoop officially opened for business, June 11.
Scheidler and Turner did most of the work to get the business ready to open.
“We repainted the outside of the building,” said Scheidler. “That was big.”
She added that the color of the outside of the building is probably one of the first things people notice.
The couple also remodeled the entryway and added a window to display the ice cream in a dipping cabinet.
They also updated the bathrooms, put in a new floor and repainted. After that, Scheidler added some personal touches.
The Village Scoop offers Cedar Crest ice cream, but also have soft-serve chocolate, vanilla and twist, plus eight kinds of flavor burst soft-serve.
Scheidler says they also serve the ice cream in malts and shakes.
“We serve the 1919 Root Beer on tap,” said Scheidler, which can be used in root beer floats.
Those looking for a more substantial meal also have the option to order smash burgers, sandwiches, salads and wraps. The Village Scoop also has appetizers and sides, such as fries, cheese curds and onion rings.
“People can dine in or order out,” said Scheidler.
Right now, Scheidler says she has six part-time employees, plus a lot of family members who help out.
Those looking for The Village Scoop’s hours of operation should check their Facebook page, as Scheidler says the hours may change soon.
“Hopefully, we’ll have longer hours,” said Scheidler.
She says they are undecided whether they will be open year-round, or on a seasonal basis.
Turner says they received a warm reception from the community.
“We’re thankful for all the community support that we had,” said Scheidler.
A grand opening celebration is set for Saturday, Aug. 21, from 2-5 p.m., with music, food specials, games and prizes.
