UW-Eau Claire reports that Hannah Brewster, Edgar, graduated with a bachelor of business administration degree in business in December 2021.

Birth

Cody and Ryleigh Weiler, Edgar, have announced the birth of their son, Asher Scott Weiler, at 9:13 a.m. on Feb. 1, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. The infant weighed seven pounds, eight ounces and measured 20-1/2 inches at birth. Grandparents are Scott and Kari Dahlke, Edgar, Richard Weiler, Edgar, and Jamie Weiler (Chris Ziegel), Fenwood. Great-grandparents are Mike and Rhonda Karlen, Tomahawk, Diane Dahlke and the late Ken Dahlke, Edgar, Ed and Jill Mielke, Fenwood, Jerry and Carrie Stahel, Schofield, Alice Weiler and the late Donald Weiler, Athens.

Preschool screening

Edgar Elementary School will hold preschool screening and four-year-old registration days Wednesday and Thursday, March 16-17, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

All children who plan to attend four-year-old kindergarten in the fall need to attend the preschool screening and 4K registration days. This screening is to register your child for 4K and help identify any children who may be in need of some type of assistance prior to entering school. Screening and registration will take approximately 45 minutes and will include the areas of health and developmental history, readiness concepts, motor skills, and speech/language development.

If you have any concerns with your child who is under 3 years old, staff from the Birth to Three program will be available to screen your child. This screening will take approximately 30 minutes and will include observations of early developmental skills and tasks and the completion of a health and developmental history.

Information letters will be sent out in mid-February to all parents of children ages three and four. If you do not receive a letter, or if you know of someone new to the district, or have any questions, call the elementary office at 715-352-2727 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Radio history

The Marathon County Historical Society’s popular History Speaks lecture series is now virtual. This month, History Speaks will feature a live streamed presentation “The History of Wisconsin Public Media” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, by Rick Reyer, Central Regional Manager at Wisconsin Public Radio. He’ll present the history of Wisconsin Public Media. Reyer will also touch upon the impact and importance of deciphering in the media between “fake news” and reliable information. Weston native Rick Reyer began his career at Wisconsin Public Radio in 1989 in Green Bay as the first business development representative outside of Madison. After a stint in Madison in the early 1990s, Reyer came back to his home community to open the central regional bureau at UW-Marathon County, now UW-Stevens Point at Wausau, in 1995. As central regional manager, Rick oversees the operations of 10 WPR stations covering all or part of 20 counties.

Edgar Public Schools reports zero cases of COVID-19 among 689 staff and students as of Feb. 7 among 689 students and staff. The school has had 111 cases of coronavirus since the start of the 2021-21 school year.

Open house

St. John’s School, Edgar, will hold a pre-kindergarten open house on Monday, Feb. 21, 6-7 p.m. in the pre-kindergarten classrooms.

Virtual teen night

Teens are invited to a virtual, casual night of conversation and relaxation on Thursday, Feb. 10, 6-7:30 p.m. as they move from holiday vacation mode back into school and life mode.

On Virtual Teen Nights, teens from all over Wisconsin come together online for games, hands-on activities and conversation. These monthly virtual programs for teens are planned during the school year by a group of youth services librarians across the state. They take place on Zoom and each month is a different type of activity with a unique theme.

In February, the group will mark that certain heartshaped holiday with a Jeopardy- style contest and follow it up with some ideas for card making and poetry for a celebration or anti-celebration. Call 715-261-7220 for more information.

Woodland waddle

Edgar Area Trail Supporters (EATS) will sponsor the annual Scotch Creek Woodland Waddle on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. A 400 meter children’s race will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Proceeds from the event go towards maintenance of trails in the Scotch Creek Woodland Preserve in Edgar, including trail grooming for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

St. Stephen’s

St. Stephen ELCA will an Edgar community senior event on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 1-3 p.m. Board games and cards will be played.
