Blood pressure
The Marathon County United Way will hold a free blood pressure screening at Stark’s Floral, Edgar, 9-11 a.m. every second Monday of the month. No registration is required. A registered nurse will provide educational support.

Softball meeting
The Fenwood Lions Club will hold an organizational meeting for the men’s softball league on Thursday, March 26, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Illusion’s in Fenwood. St. John’s Church
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church has announced cancellation of multiple events because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
A card making night for Honor Flight participants scheduled for Monday, March 30, has been cancelled with no rescheduling date.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre play performance during the week of March 30 has been cancelled with a possible rescheduling for fall of this year.
Friday fish fries at St. John’s Church will be for carry out only.
Bishop William Callahan of the La Crosse Diocese has announced suspension of the Sunday obligation to attend Mass. Sunday services will be offered for those who are not in jeopardy of the coronavirus.
County libraries
Due to the rising threat of COVID-19 (commonly known as coronavirus), and in compliance with the state’s effort to respond to and contain the spread of the disease, all nine Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) locations will be closed beginning March 17. This includes locations in Wausau, Athens, Edgar, Hatley, Marathon City, Mosinee, Rothschild, Spencer and Stratford. All locations are tentatively set to reopen on April 6. However, the library’s reopening date is subject to change as developments occur.
Due to the closure, all library programs and events that were scheduled to occur between now and April 6 have been canceled.
Some library services will continue to be offered throughout the closure. Patrons may still contact the MCPL Wausau reference desk for questions and assistance via phone (715-261-7230), email (ref@mcpl. us) or online chat between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Wi-Fi at each of the eight branch libraries will remain on 24/7, providing patrons outside of the library (within range) with access to high-speed Internet.
ELCA churches
St. Stephens ELCA, Edgar, and St. John’s ELCA, town of Wien, have announced they will cancel all worship services until Easter Sunday, April 12. The church quilting, cleaning and Senior Day are cancelled until further notice.
Fitness center
The Edgar Public School Wellness Center will be closed through Monday, April 6, because of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
On campus
UW-Oshkosh has awarded Hannah Dahlke, Edgar, a nursing degree from the College of Nursing, during a university 55th annual midyear commencement held March 16.
