Janie M. Baker

Janie M. Baker, 76, Cornell, passed away, Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, surrounded by her family.
It was a happy day, Sept. 15, 1949, for Jim and Dorothy Snider. They had waited for 10 years, for a child and on this day, twins were born. Jimmie was first and along came Janie, 22 minutes later.
Always stubborn, Jimmie preceded Janie in death, as he passed away in a boating accident, in July of 1972.
Janie grew up in the Cornell area. She graduated in 1967, from Cornell High School.
She married Greg Baker, in 1968. Vanessa was born in 1969, and in 1970, Greg was born.
Janie worked at Hubbard Scientific, from 1976 to 2012. When she retired, Greg and Janie loved to travel. They spent many years, with the camper, in Texas and Florida, and camped around the Cornell area, all those years.
Most of the local camping was done with good friends, Ron and Sandy Kadlec. Janie always said, βOn the go again.β
They were blessed with six grandkids: Janessa and Colton, who lots of time, called Grandpa and Gramβs home. Then, along came Trey, Dylan, Brodie and Ava. Then, along came great-grands, Jaxton, Nora, Carter, Ecco, Avery Jane, Arleigh and Scarlett. Greg could be seen spoiling his girls!
Later in life, Janie developed COPD, then kidney failure. If you asked how she was, most times, her answer would be, sucking air!
Janie was a special woman, always putting others before herself. She gave her love unconditionally and was loved right back, with all our hearts.
She loved reading, cooking for her family and baking pies for Greg. She was always seen with a Coke in her hand.
Janie lived her life with spunk and sass, living life to the fullest.
She is survived by her husband β Greg, of almost 58 years of marriage; her daughter β Vanessa (Tom); her son β Greg βChickyβ (Tasha); grandchildren β Janessa (Wes), Colton (Miranda), Trey, Dylan, Brodie and Ava; great-grandchildren β Jaxton, Arleigh, Carter, Nora, Ecco, Scarlett and Avery Jane; sister-in-law Amy (Jim); brother-in-law β Gary (Lesli); a special nephew β Josh (Kelly); special friends β Sandy Kadlec, Cindie Klass and Ed Bob Thon; and many other cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents β Jim and Dorothy; her twin brother β Jimmie; her in-laws β Earl and Ruth; and a brother-in-law β Ron.
Services are at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 11, at Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell, with Pastor Frank Nowak officiating. Visitation is from 9-10:45 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Interment is in the Cornell Cemetery, following the service.
