Emrow “Em” Yoost, 87, Chippewa Falls, passed away, Monday, April 6, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, after a lingering illness.

Emrow was born June 8, 1938, in Big Falls, to Roman and Viola (Nieland) Yoost.

He grew up in the Anson area, and attended Stillson School – when he wasn’t playing hooky.

Em worked most of his career, with, and for, Dave Laird, at Laird Enterprises. The Lairds became like family and were a very special part of his life. They helped him through many difficult times and are appreciated for all they did.

Before working there, he worked for Harold George, roofing large buildings. Em also farmed, with the help of his wife and children. He fully retired in 2012.

Em married Darline Krumviede, June 8, 1963, and they raised five children. Darline preceded him in death, Dec. 29, 2005. He then married Margaret “Peggy” Smith, Jan. 27, 2012, and lived with her, until his passing.

He loved the outdoors, even if it was just walking around picking up leaves, sticks, acorns or whatever he found. Em loved fishing, hunting, gardening and camping. He took many trips to Canada, fishing and we have some of them on the wall for proof! Em also loved sweets, eating them day and night.

Em was a member of the English Lutheran Church of Bateman, and attended when he could.

He is survived by his wife – Peggy; daughter – Sue (Ken) Arneson; stepchildren – Bill (Julie) Schwennsen, Bob (Joan) Schwennsen and Roxanne Short; sisters – Arlene Hutchinson, Carol Trott and Ellen Hughes; grandchildren – Nathan (Jenny) Chaulklin and Corey (Ashley) Arneson; great-grandchildren – Maverick and Harvey Chaulklin, and Cambree Arneson; and many other stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife – Darline; twin sister – Evelyn Steele; stepdaughter – Cindy Hamman; four brothers-in-law – Pat Hutchinson, Byron Trott, George Steele and Jim Hughes Sr.; and grandsons – Mike and Jack Short.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice, for the wonderful support and care of Em, during his last few months, especially Nurse Gwen.

Visitation was at 1 p.m., Monday, April 13, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls. A celebration of life service followed, at 2:30 p.m.
