Cynthia Goldbach Smith
Cynthia “Cindy” Goldbach Smith (born Cynthia Marie Goldbach), 69, Rothschild, passed away on April 6, 2026, following a brief illness.
She was born January 4, 1957, at St Mary’s Hospital in Wausau. She graduated from Marathon High School and then University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in dietetics. She went on to work for UW Hospitals and Clinics as a registered dietician and later helped open an eating disorders clinic at Marshfield Clinic.
From a young age she was a gifted athlete, achieving a worlc championship in baton twirling. She was also an accomplished flutist, singer and writer. She loved to travel, scuba dive and all things Irish and turquoise. Above all, she loved her family dearly and cherished her time with her grandchildren.
Cindy is survived by her mother, Iris Goldbach, Marathon; her two sons: Bradley (Mary) Smith, Dunedin, Fla., and Dr. Daniel (Sophia Ruff-Berganza) Smith, Wausau; one niece, Hannah Goldbach, Washington DC; two nephews: Collin Goldbach, Boston, Maine, and Sam Goldbach, Oconomowoc; and her four grandchildren: Nora, Owen, Addie and Sally.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Goldbach; her brother, John Goldbach; her grandparents, John and Alva Mateofsky; her grandparents, Joseph and Anna Goldbach.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at noon on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (St. Mary’s) Catholic Church in Marathon. Reverend Monsignor Joseph Diermeier presided. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The family received friends at the church from 10 a.m. to 11:45 prior to the start of Mass.
