Rose Marie “Mary” Pietenpol

Rose Marie “Mary” Pietenpol, 88, passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.
A lifelong Wisconsin resident, Mary was born in Pine Valley, to parents Leo and Ethel Pflughoeft, July 18, 1935.
She always spoke fondly of the dairy farm on which she was raised, alongside her siblings, Donnie Pflughoeft, Betty Aumann and Pat Keller, by whom she is survived.
Mary married David “Dave” Pietenpol, May 7, 1955, in Neillsville. After moving to Altoona, two sons were born. As the boys grew up, Mary walked with them to the school where she worked helping to manage the school finances.
Outside of work, Mary had many enjoyments, including fishing, gardening, baking, quilting and homemaking. Upon a well-earned retirement, she and Dave built a log home on Lake Holcombe, where they enjoyed watching the birds and pursuing their hobbies.
Always generous with her time, Mary often volunteered at the church, coordinating various meals, events and craft bazaars. As part of the Helping Hands group, she sewed piles of quilts, teddy bears, hats and other goods, for those in need.
Upbeat until the end, her family can’t help but agree with Mary’s declaration, “I’ve had a long, good life!”
She is survived by her husband of 68 years – Dave; her sons – Michael “Mike” (Theresa) and John (Jane); and granddaughter – Naomi (Alex). They will all remember her determination, her sweetness, her sense of humor and her cookies!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at 12:30 p.m., at Holcombe United Methodist Church, with Pastor Paul Messmer officiating. The visitation will begin at 11 a.m. All are welcome to stay for a light luncheon, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be deeply appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
