Virginia Ann (nee Thums) Birch, age 82, of Medford, passed away at Abbotsford Health Care Center on Saturday, April 18, 2026 under the tender care of Hope Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake. Father Patrick McConnell will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to greet the family from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with arrangements.

Virginia was born on Nov. 23, 1943, the daughter of William and Clara (Haider) Thums, Sr. in Rib Lake. She was one of 12 children. Virginia worked at Tombstone Pizza for many years.

Virginia loved to go camping and fishing. She enjoyed dancing at local social events and enjoyed a good meal at Rocky’s Café in Medford. Virginia also liked watching western movies, eagles and horses.

Virginia is survived by her four children, Vic Sickler, Gayanne (Harry) Bryant, Bruce Shaw and Bradley Birch; seven grandchildren, Christopher Sickler, Caelen Sickler, James Weimar, Vanessa Birch, Kordell Birch, Evelyn Birch and Pearl Birch; seven great-grandchildren, Alan, Christopher and Alexander Weimar, Lilyann Kuhns, Preston, Landon and Lincoln Birch; and one great-great-granddaughter, Monika Kuhns. She is further survived by five siblings, Armella Berger of Medford, Dennis (Cheryl) Thums, of Tomahawk, Rosella Dvorak, of Tomahawk, Bruce Thums, of Dorchester and Vicky (Roger) Oates, of Rib Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ten siblings, Lucille Olson, Caroline Martinez, Clara Thums, Edward Thums, Earl Thums, Henry Thums, William Thums, Jr. and three in infancy, Lorraine, Dale and Kathleen.
